LINDEN VALLEY CANNINGTON (Special to The Bolt-l ‘- “ The entertainment given on Thurs- day evening, August 27th in Dickâ€" son's Hall under the auspices of the Fene'lo-n Falls braach of the W0- men’s Institute, and in aid 01 the Red Cross Society of Canada was one of the best amaeeur entertain- ments ever presented to a Fenelon Falls audience. Whille the attendance was not as large as it should have been, Considering the excellence of the programme, the hall was fairly well filled and the audience was an appreenative one. Rev. W. H. f‘IAQ French, who omciated as chairman", in his openring address spoke in eu-. logistic terms of the Women's IllStl- jute, aim of the Red Cross Society. The program-me ‘WaS presented for the most part by the summer resiâ€" ,dents or romantic Rosedale, that far famed resort of the tourist, and others. Solos, vocal, were'contikb- uted by Miss Elsie Keefer, Mr. Com- her and Mr. Lumsden, also by Mrs. Jno. MacK-ay and Rev. W. H. French of Fenelon Falls. That these numbers were all enjoyed by the au- dience was manifest by, the hearty and prolonged applause. A recitation 3 given by Miss Dolly Robinson was much appreciated. Instrumental se- lections on the piano were well reu- dcred by Miss Tilly Patten, and Mr. Armstrong of Fenelon Falls. Miss ("rowdy, of London, Eng. was the accompanist during the even-lug, as' sistcdvhy Mrs. Delamere and Mrs. French. The piano recently placed lo the ball by the efforts of the W0- men‘s Institute was heard for the lnrst time by the audience, who were lplciiscd with the tone oi the instruâ€" ment. The second part of the pro- }gramme consisted oi_ a laughable ‘iarce entitled “The Two Puddifoots" in which Major Keefer as Bufiles, an elderly itachelor who longs for a quiet life, gave a splendid interpre- tation of the part. M'iss Dora Dick- son as Mrs. Figsby, hlS landlady. a sympathetic and charming but de- termined widow, brought Puddiioot sr. to her feet in the last act. , Muss Lilo Keefer as Charlotte, niece of Bufiies, acted well, while Miss Grace Delamere took the part of Peggy, the housemaid with much naturalâ€" ness. Mr. Edmund Keefer as Puddi- foot sr. and Mr. \‘éilks Keefer as l’uddifootjr. were very funny in their respective roles, and acted cleverly. A spemal feature was an educated camel, of which Mr. W’llkS Keefer, attired in Oriental costume, was the proud proprietor. The “Johnstone family” of Rosedale, made a decided hit, the “‘iamily” be- ing composed of the following ladies and gentlemen: Major Keefer, Miss Trina Keefer, Mr. Comber, -M:1ss Molly Delamere, Mr. Lumsden, Miiss Dolly Robinson, Master Ia'n Innes Taylor and Miss Evelyn Arkwright. The singing of the National Anthem closed the entertainment, the pro- ceeds of which amounted to $41. The garden party given under the auspices of St. James church on Tuesday evenmg, Aug. 25th at the rcsxdence of Mr. E. D. Hand was a' decided success.
