A very unique event occurred on on Tuesday the 24th inst when two funerals were solemnized on the same day, the first being the infant“ child of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmott Mark, of Oshawa, formerly of this place and Mr. John Scott, who was drowned accidentally in Scugog river south of the ‘= town. Deceased was nearly lifty three years of age. On Wednesday December 19th, the Woman’s Auxiliary of St. Paul’s Church held their annual bazaar and entertainment in the town hall. Tea was served in the Council Chamber: and the entertainment was held in Messrs J. J. Mortimer and Mr. M. Brown attended the Winter Fair in Lindsay on Tuesday. On Sunday last Rev. C. E. Pratt, B. A., of St. Paul’s church, Minden exchanged pulpits with Mr. F. Ely, of the Stanhope Anglican Mission. In the morning Mr. Ely gave a very interesting address to the Sunday school on his work among the Indians During the morning he spoke on the subject of Love, the love of David, and Jonothan, and in the evening a missionary address on his work with the Indians at Fort Alexander. Both sermons were attentively listened to by large congregations. Mr. Arthur Stimson and son Thos., returned from Toronto on Monday. (Special to the Post.) A Christmas tree and entertain- ment was held in the schoal house on ‘Thursday evening of last week, and was a decided success. A good crowd vas present, notwithstanding the un- favorable weather which prevailed. The programme was thoroughly en- joyed by all. Mr. Steel ab‘y filled the position of chairman. At the close of the programme, Santa Claus in the man of Mr. Alex. McFadyen appeared on the scene, much to the delight of the children, and distribut- ed the many beautiful presents from on the tree. Mr. John Kelly, of Clear Creek, Minn., is visiting his brother, Mr. Chas. Kelly and other relatives. This is Mr. Kelly’s first visit to his old home since he left for the States thirty-one years ago. Another character was Buster Brown, taken by Mr. Fregl Martin. The Christmas tree was greatly enâ€" joyed by the children and many gifts were given. The hit of the evening was the Vil~ Iago School. This was a piece with many local characters and local hits The bell swinging by Misses Nita V-ickery, Elsie Sisson aod Mary Balâ€" four was an unusual number well done. One very much appneciated number was little Doris Edgars song “Ex- cuse Me, Teacher". She gave a cute little recitation as an encore. The church made over forty dollars on the venture and a record breaking crowd had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Corcoran, of Peterboro. After the ceremony, the party sat down to a. sumptuous dejeuner, when a. toast to the health of the bnlde was proposed by Rev. Wallace and re- sponded to by the groom.
