Habliburton L.O.L. Receives Thanks Of Troops Overseas
Haliburton, Feb. 21 (Staff) - The following are letters of appreciation received by the members of the Ladies Orange Lodge Haliburton for Christmas parcels received.
Dear Friend:-
Very best thanks to you for the gift I received this week. The articles are most welcome and I certainly appreciate your kindness. We hope it won't be too long before we hall (sic) be back to say Thank You in person. I understand that Haliburton is getting a real old fashioned winter this year and I sure would like to get a look at snow again. It's not, precisely hot here at the moment, but the oranges and bananas are still growing. I'd trade them for an apple.

This card is part of a larger collection of World War II personnel clippings. The project began in 1944 at the Lindsay Library. The intent was to gather together as much information as possible on the military record and the service of people from the Town of Lindsay and the County of Victoria (now Kawartha Lakes)who served in the war. To that end, during the years 1944, 1945, and 1946, members of the public donated photographs and updated information about their loved ones. Both library staff and the public saved and donated newspaper clippings. Some of the files contain great amounts of detail, while others have just a name.
