Description
People paying mortgages made unpleasant discoveries after they requested mortgage deferrals from their lenders during COVID-19.

Any mortgage payments that were deferred showed up as late payments on credit scores at Equifax and TransUnion, which can heavily damage the credit score especially if done multiple times.

Banks and mortgage lenders offered mortgage deferrals as many Canadians lost wages from decreased hours and layoffs across the country and were unable to make payments during the COVID-19 pandemic.
