- The City partnered with landlords of apartments in CKL and Haliburton County to help end homelessness during COVID-19.
The Rapid Re-Housing Program launched as a way to house close to 100 people in Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton County that were experiencing homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic. The majority were single (putting bachelor and one-bedroom units in high demand) with nearly 20 families and several youth, seniors, and couples.
Housing Services provided participating landlords with provide funding to prepare for move-in, prioritized COVID-19 screening prior to move-in and daily screening post-move-in, choice of tenant, three months pre-paid rent, ongoing tenant affordability, landlord support through the Affordable Housing Program Coordinator, and tenants prioritized to take the Rent Smart tenant education program.
