COVID-19 Update #40: Kawartha Lakes to open services under new safety protocols - City of Kawartha Lakes Posted on Wednesday, May 06, 2020 Kawartha Lakes - The municipality continues to expand on a number of services currently closed due to COVID-19. During the pandemic, and following provincial regulations, the City has made tough decisions to close access to some municipal services to help prevent the spread of the virus. "This entire situation hasn't been easy on anyone, but we did what needed to be done to put the health and safety of residents and employees first," stated Mayor Letham. "After working through some of the challenges, Council and I are pleased to share that we can start to lift restrictions on some services and take advantage of the better weather and the outdoors. The pandemic is far from over, but these small freedoms will go a long way for people's mental health." This announcement follows consultation with our community partners and aligns with the recent directives from the province for the reopening of some seasonal and outdoor businesses. Physical distancing and safety protocols must be followed at all times. Affected services will be monitored closely and you can expect to see an increased presence of local law enforcement to ensure public safety is maintained. Municipal-Wide Burn Ban Kawartha Lakes Fire will lift the municipal-wide burn ban effective Friday May 8, 2020. Residents are asked to burn responsibly and safely.
