- Healthcare workers in Kawartha Lakes took to the street on July 17, 2020 to protest a new bill they believe will strip them of their workplace rights after being lauded as 'heroes' through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bill 195 would allow the province to remain flexible while continuing to protect people and their safety. It would allow the province to redeploy frontline staff to long-term care or retirement homes and allow public health to redeploy staff to work in areas like contact tracing.
The Bill would also see the government control collective bargaining and override such things as leave of absences and overtime.
Frontline workers were already voluntarily accepting redeployments to long-term care and public health within their current collective bargaining agreements. - Publisher
