Catholic board plans staggered start to new school year Catholic board plans staggered start to new school year This Week Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board will begin the new school year with a staggered entry for all students. The staggered start will give administrators and educators more time to prepare the school for enhanced safety measures, educators much needed time to organize their classrooms - elementary schools reopen to staff on Aug. 31 - and allow students to re- enter the classroom gradually to get adjusted to the new school routines. Elementary students whose surnames begin with the letters A to K will attend school on Sept. 10 and 14 while those with surnames beginning with the letters L to Z will attend school Sept. 11 and 15. High school students in Grade 9 will attend school Sept. 10 and 15, Grade 10 students on Sept. 11 and 15, and those in grades 11 and 12, will attend Sept. 14 and 15. All students, elementary and secondary, will begin full attendance on Sept. 16. Individual schools may determine a different staggered entry schedule for first year kindergarten students. These dates will be communicated to families at the school level. The board is currently planning to implement Virtual Learning on the same staggered schedule and more information about this will be shared with families in the near future. As of Aug. 25, roughly 1,800 students - 1,200 elementary and 600 secondary - have opted for remote learning.
