Drive-in concert for a cause in Lindsay Drive-in concert for a cause in Lindsay Barbara-Ann MacEachern COVID-19 has changed everything for the entertainment industry, but a handful of community-minded musicians have decided to steer into the curve and make some changes of their own. "Since things are slim as far as entertainment resources are concerned, the new medium appears to be this drive-in concept," says Bill McConnell whose band The Steelhorse Gypsies will be on the lineup for Bigger Together at the Lindsay Fairgrounds Sept. 19. "This will be groundbreaking for them, because this is the first of its kind there," says McConnell, noting that he hopes the Lindsay Exhibition (LEX) can use the format for future events to try to stay afloat amid pandemic event cancellations. Better yet, the concert will support Big Brothers Big Sisters Kawartha Lakes- Haliburton. "They have missed out this past summer on some important fundraising events," he says. "We just felt compelled to be whatever we could do …. To see what we could do to bring awareness and aid this special organization." In addition to The Steelhorse Gypsies, the other acts will be Practically Hip, Canada Rockz and Two for the Show. Put together, the concert will offer everything from comedy and tributes of classic Canadian music to originals. The concert is produced by RBM Productions in association with Westerby Entertainment. Tickets for the 7 p.m. Sept. 19 concert are $40 per person, with no restriction on how many people can be in each vehicle, and are available through Eventbrite. "For four bands, at $40 per person, that's a lot of bang for your buck for a lot of good entertainment," says McConnell. The concert will be weather permitting. A concession stand and washrooms will be available on site, but otherwise concertgoers are required to stay inside their vehicles at all times. The month of September is Big Brothers Big Sisters month, and McConnell says the concert is just one of several COVID-safe fundraisers planned.
