- The number of local active COVID-19 cases in Kawartha Lakes increased dramatically after the confirmation of additional cases of COVID-19 within the CentralEast Correctional Centre (CECC).
As of May 25, 2021, 122 inmates and nine staff had tested positive in relation to the outbreak declared on May 17, 2021.
Testing detected mutations consistent with a COVID-19 variant, but the specific lineage of the variant was yet to be confirmed.
