The Trillium Lakelands District School Board will be sending COVID-19 rapid screening kits home with all their elementary students the week of Dec. 6 as one of the many measures both the board and the province are implementing to ensure a safe return to school after the Christmas holidays. "All students will be provided a rapid screening kit with five tests for use over the holidays," director of education Wes Hahn told trustees at the November 23 board meeting. "The use of the tests will be voluntary and does not replace the PCR testing, but it provides a good warning that the virus may be present." TLDSB, the province and the district boards of health are gearing up to have a plan put in place that will prevent the significant spike in COVID cases that occurred in Ontario schools after last year's Christmas break.
