Index to the Book of Remembrance
Index to the Book of Remembrance Details
The collection contains World War I and World War II military records of service men and women from Burnt River, Coboconk, and Norland, and includes attestation papers and photographs. Some genealogical material pertaining to family trees and census data is included. The records also include cemetery details such as photos of headstones, plot numbers, and maps.

The collection is organized into several parts: Service Records, newsletters of the Canadian Grenadier Guards, and the Memory Project.

The first section of Service Records pays tribute to members who were killed in action. The second section contains members who served and survived.
Index to section 1 is on page 89 with links to the individual records found at Pages 6-88: Killed in Action
Index to section 2 is on page 389 with links to the individual records found at:
Pages 97-211: Service Records: A-D
Page 212-282: Service Records: E-M
Pages 283-388: Service Records: O-W

Throughout the collection, the creator, Jan Briggs-McGowan has interwoven pages from Veteran's Affairs Canada's Book of Remembrance.

The collection makes reference to the newsletter, "The '52 Natural': Voice of the Canadian Grenadier Guards." Copies of selected newsletters are available for viewing with the physical collection at the Lindsay branch library. A sample has been included in this digital collection.

A number of names are listed in the index but do not have corresponding pages in the collection. Their snippets of information have been included in the Addendum where you can find links to the individual records.

In 2005, the Year of the Veteran, Briggs-McGowan and others interviewed as many war veterans as possible for the purpose of recording their memories. These interviews were written up and collected as the Memory Project.
