" EE -------- Canadian Horses in England. LJ The ard evidently detormined * to'mntie only secordin importance to that of live cattle, It is estimated that nearly 3,000 Canadian horses have been ex- ported to Europe during the last few years, and these shipments are to be vastly supple- mented during the coming season. Last spring a special sale of 600 horses, sclected to suit this market, was held at Foromto- This was attended with such marked success that three sales are being arranged to take place next spring, commencing at Toronto on the 9th, 10th and 11th of April, when 500 horses will be offered, 500 more ut Hamil- ton on thie 16th, 17th; aud 18th of April, and another 500 hundred at London ou the 23rd, * 24th, and 25th of April. As all these cities ave only about 40 miles apart, and situate in the Province of Ontario, one of the best horse breeding districts on the American continent, they must offer great advantages to buyers -- In the advance of regular horse fairs in Canada similar to those held in this country. It is confidently expected that these sales will sup- ply this deficiency, and afford English buyers abetter opportunity than has heretofore ex- isted of selecting suitable Lorses for this war- ket without having to scour the country, As an instance of the superior quality of the Canadian horse a pair of bay carriage horses sold by auction in Glasgow a few days ago to Mr. Coats, Woodside House, Paisley, for 320 88, a Canadian trotter realized 320 gs., 280 88., were refused for a pair of cobs, and a very large number of these horses bave been sold by Messrs. Lucas and Co. of Liverpool, at high prices, More than oue witness examined before Lord Rosebery's committee gave testimony to the valuable qualities of the Canadian horse. Col. Soame Jcnyas told the Prince of Wales, who took great interest in his exdmination that "Canadian horses are fairly bred and make cxcellent hacks, wonderful sound aud bard, capital fencers, in short, admirable animals." Among the purchasers of Canadian hunters, and carriage horses may be mentioned Col. Anstruther TAOmsoH, Bord Donsdale, Lord Leigh, Col, Leigh, M. P+," Capt. Machell and several of the Liverpool merchant princes. From recent returns it appéars that 40,863 horses were imported from foreign countries into Great Britain in 1876, and 24,379 during the first eight months of 1877. Under such cir- cumstances the success of this new trade will be watched with great interest on both sides_of the Atlantic. Canada has the WANTED (000 BUS. OFFICE OF THE BROWN & PATTERSON MPG CO'Y. WHITBY, ONT. TO THE PUBLIC. In presenting our Twenty-second Annual Catalogue of Agricultural Twplements to the farmers of Canada for the year 1877, we do so with more than an ordinary degree of pride and confidence, from the marked favor and patronage conferred upon us, and the steady and in- creasing demand from year to year for our new celebrated Farm Implements. We shall continue as heretofore. as manufacturers, to make a specialty of Agricultural Machinery--the Johnston Self-raking Reaper, the Triumph Combined Reaper and Mower, the Cayuga Mower, the Young Canada Mower, and our new Whitby Harvester claiming a large share of our time ard attention. horses we want ; according to the census of 1861, there were nearly 500,000 in the | Province of Onptario alone, or for Syery| hundred of the population 27 horses. We employ only the best mechanical skill, and our machines pass under the mest careful supervision and scrutiny--every detail being subjected to the severest ciiticis n--and Jack ) and there is no difficulty in putting them in operation by any person of moderate mechanical ability. i : Our machinery has been selected and constructed with a special reference to the manu- facture of our own machines--many tools having been made for this particular purpose, and not adapted for other work, and our workmen are educated up to the wants and requirements of our manfacture--obtaining a thorough knowledge of the construction of our machines, and For nearly aquarter of a century Dr. Sage's Catarrh Remedy has been acknow. | ledged by the people as a possitive cure for all catarchal affections. Wione Darien, Wis. ; John Zeigler, Carlisle Springs' Pa.; James Tompkins, St. Cloud, Minn, , are thus enabled to obtain a higher degree of skill and proficiency than where general manu- facturing is carried on. N 3 We are, therefore, enabled to introduce a more perfect system into all the departments of manufacture, adding nat only to the perfection of the work, but also to the rapidity of its exe- cution--and a consequent reduction of cost. This principle is regarded necessary in a well regulated establishment, and we are enabled to turn out our machines with a Ligher degree of perfection, and at prices so low as absolutely to defy competition. The Johnston Self-Raking Reaper is now so well known as a Single Reaper, that a word of commendation would almost seem su- perfluous, as there are many claiming to manufacture this machine who have adhered to the old original Johaston machine, without keeping up to the improvements, that justice 10 ourselves and patrons require of us to state that we Lave modified it in almost every essential art, and for strength, durability, and equality of cut, in every sind and condition of grain; tans of draught und ease of management--the "Johnston," as manufactured by us--stands pre-eminently ahead ot all o*her reapers. In proof of this position we have only to point to the many First Prizes awarded us--at the last Provincial trial of Ontario, and mary county trials which have taken place all over Canada, within the last few years. OUR TRIUMPH COMBINED MACHINE with late improvements, is all that can be desired in a combined machine, and cannot fail to meet all the requirements of purchasers. Qur Improved Cayuga Chief, Jr., and our Young Canada Mowers are both first class machines--constrtucted almost wholly of Iron and Steel. The Cayuga Jr. has a rear and the Young Canada a front ut'; both strong, durable machines, and not ex- celled by any machines in the market for quality of cut, durability, lightness of dra', adapta- bility, and ease of management. OUR NEW "WHITBY HARVESTER." As the country has become better adapted to machinery, and many of our farmers? have be- come skilled in the use of machines, a growing demand has sprung up tora Light, Durable, First-Class Reaper. Alive to the requirements of the day, we have succeeded in iuventing a machine witha Wrought Iron Frame, wich the least possible gearing--with large, broad-faced drive wheel, -- and so constructed that the frame and table tilt at the same time, thereby keeping the pitman always in line with the knife, The rakes are driven directly from the main shaft--there being been produced. We have applied for letters patent, and shall hold our invention, for our own exclusive manufacture, and we respecttully suggest to intending purchasers, that they should sce this machine before giving their orders for the coming harvest, The * Ww hitby Harvester" weighs, all told, 600 pounds, but being made principally of the best quality ofiron and steel, and from its ingenious and compact construction, it combines the strength and durability of the heavier machines. All our machines are fully warranted. : With this list of machines, we feel confident that we can meet every requirement, and we respecifully solicit a trial of our machines, believing that we can furnish a better machine for the moaey than can be obtained clsewhere.
