Fe the Love we held too light gone away from our speech and sight, ' No bitter tears, words of fond regret, et, could pay the debt - Of thankless years. Ogling the Girls. HOW A " MASHER" WAS DISPOSED OF. There is in every large town and city cer- tain idle men, technically known as « mashers," who spend a good portion of their time in ogling women as they pass along the streots. Asa rule, tho woman who looks straight abeid and goes about her business will not be molested. Those chiefly exposed are the giddy, even though woll-intentioned, young women who have little or nothing elso to do, or if they have, neglect it and go sauntering idly up and . down the highways, heedless of their be- havior. Sometimes, however; the ¢ masher" 1s impudent and unrebuksable, in which case the tact and wit of a young woman on her way to @ railway station in Cincinnati are very commendable. She was accosted by a dapper, dandified fellow, who, stepping up to her, asked if he might carry her poriman- teau. She looked at Lim & moment and banding it to him, said, * certainly, ceriain- ly." He took it and tipped -a wink to his loafing friends, who followed thom to the station. He tried to enter into conversation with her, but ghe made no reply. Arrivitg at the station. to bis consternation and the amusement of his friends, she took out her pocket-book, and, handing him 10 cents, seized her bag boarded the cars. It would have been creditable to him if he had set himself to work after that te earn his living from day to day as honestly as he carned hisdime on the walk to the station. " : Daxase! They quell pain, but checking too suddenly, the result is inflammation. - Dr. Fowler's Extract of Wild Strawberry, made from the wild strawberry plant and other healing vegetables, is nature's own cure for all forms of bowel complaint, 1 wonder if the following good story, which roaches me from Rangoon, is really true. 1f 'nt, mores the pity. A gentleman of the civil servico recently applied * for leave on urgent private afinirs, and the Government granted the leave on hil 'explaining that he wished to marry. Ondthoexpiration of his leave beeturmed; married, and the secretary wrote askin, an explanation of such conduct on og 8 of the gentle- man. The reply wasas follows: «Sir--1 have the honor to inform you in'#hswer to your No. B, 23 of the 21st April last, that on taking leave I fully intended to magy, but, on my arrival in England, & found the lady in question entertained frivolous objectiohs to my personal appearance. Ihave the honor to be, sir, your obedient servant." e «Bee here, George," said a fond mamma fo her little son, as they walked on'the beach, "whata lot of nice little round stones!" "Yes," grumbled Georgie, as he cast a searching glance around, 'and nots thing to throw'em at!" Amateur--+ Coming to our concert, Mr. Brown?" Mr. Brown--¢ Well--no--I think not." Amateur--¢ Why Ithought you were fond of music!" Mr. Brown--¢ Well, yes; you see that's where it is." (Amateur would like to ask him what he means but thinks "it best not to.) _ A Posimvs Faor.--It is now established controversy that Re Fowler's Ex- 9 of Wild Strawberry is the most perfect "etive for all forms of bowel complaints, in- clu cholera morbus, dysentery, colic, . cholera infsutum. nausea, canker of the stomach and bowels, piles, etc. Beware of and poisoning drugs, that only for a time and produce inflammation.
