A case of considerable local in- terest to rural public school trustees and ratepayers, was tried by His Honour Judge Harding at Minden. The action was brought by the trustees of Hall's Lake School Section, Stanhope, against the township of Stanhope, for the re coveryofsomethingoveronehhuncr:d dollars. Some five years ago, it appears that (he section engageda teacher for two terms. Just after this teacher started the school was closed by the Medical Health Officer on account of what was supposed to be an outbrsak of smallpox Shortly, after the school opened again the teacher became ill and resigned from his position, During the course of the school term the trustees had received some money from the township treasurer, but at the end of the year the municipal council refused to pay any more of the amount raised for the school ¢ section by the township, and in the kept open for the requsite di cording, to the statutes.
