Division 1v to Marks required to Gertrude Henry Nostua Orohiard ne Piano Recital A very successful and most en- joyable piano recital was given in the town hall last Friday evening by the pupils of Miss Alma F. Tipp, assisted by Miss Beatrice May Whiteway, pianiste, of the Sherwood School of Music, Chicago, Sonie of the performers were very youthful, so much so that they almost needed to be lifted upon the piano stool, and when seated there cou d not reach the pedals, and yet they rendered their selections with remarkable 'ability. There were occasional indications of nervous- ness of course, as it was the very first public appearance for many of the little folks, but they did their parts exceedingly well. It is evi- dent that Miss Tipp has a large class of pupils in town, and her 'methods of teaching are quite up to-date, Her pupils give evidence of lier patience and ability as a teacher, Miss Whiteway's numbers were very much appreciated, and showed 5 her tp be a very accomplished pianiste: © Miss Tipp herself, by special request, played, during the first part of the programme, "Old Black Joe" with variations, and during her sympathetic rendering of this popular old melody, she held the almost breathless attention of the entire audience. Her fingers traversed the key-board with almost incredible rapidity, and her clever technique was well illustrated. In the closing number, Andante and Capriccioso, Miss Tipp evidenced her keen" appreciation of Mendel- ssohn, and her ability to fully in- terpret his best. We lope that the nextfrecital will attract a much larger andience, The Decoration Services The decoration services held last Sabbath afternoon in Pine Grove Cemetery * were largely attended and were exceedingly appropriate and interesting. ~The weather in the morning was very threatening, but the sky cleared. the sun slione | ott, and the conditions in the after- noo, were. truly. ideal. uite a number of visitors from Ux ridge, >tand otlier points were. also present.
