"He came to the western part ~-Jof Ontario in 1854, and comnienced teaching in 1856, and for fifty-one | years he has steadily followed this honorable callimg, and has gained for ~ fhimself'a wide and enviable reputation. After teaching for nine. years {in the county of Elgin, Mr. McBride accepted the position of "assistant master in the Port Hope High Scliool, or Graminar Schoo], as it was then called. "After nearly two years! service in Port Hope, hie took the J principalship of what was then the only graded public school in the town Jaf Cobourg. * At the close of 1871 he-was appointed principal of the Port "| Perry High School, and for nearly thirty-six years he has continued to -Jotupy this post with the most distinguished credit, and with unfailing : success. x : \ . 4 . In the evening there will be a mass meeting in the Methodist church with Dr. Johnston of Chicago in the chair, An address to Mr. McBride will be presented. by the Board of Education, and a second address from the ex pupils, to which Mr. McBride is expected to reply. A number of five minuté addresses will be given by distinguished ex-pupils, and ex-teachers, in- terspersed. with vocal and instru- mental music. The orchestra will play . frotr 7.30 to 8.15 when the meeting will be opened.
