Hp SM * Grand Toronto. . Mrs. Smith, who recently broke her 'hip, is recovering 'much better than was 'at. first: expected. She 1s doing remarkably "well - considering her age. : a These are the days of the millinery opening at O. Waddell's: "Don't . fail to see the pretty spring designs. Miss Myrtle Oldfield, of Lindsay, is visiting 'her:uncle Mr. John Powers; The death of Mrs. Richard War- finer in Fenton, Mich, last Saturday calls to mind the fact that she and her husband were residents of Port Perry pearly thirty years ago. He died in 18go. He was a shoemaker and was the man who instituted Oddfellowship in Port Perry. The local lodge was pamed after him. The remains were brought to Port Perry yesterday and * laid beside those of her late husband in the Pine Grove Cemetery To Put up a Building On Friday March 14 a special meeting of the directors of the: Port Perry, Reach and Scugog Agricultur- al Society was held for the purpose of considering the propriety of erecting buildings for agricultural Fair pur- poses, and to provide means for doing the same. The following motion was by A. W. Williams, second- ed by H. Parsons, that every director of this Socicty bea committee to collect funds for the purpose of erect- ing buildings on the Fair Grounds. Said committee to report to the Soci- ety not later than June 1st 1913. AN OLD BOYS' RE-UNION. Moved by Geo A. Cole, seconded by E. H. Purdy, that this Society hold an Old Boys' Re-union and Demon- stration on the Fair Grounds on Port Perry's Civic Holiday in the month of August, on the same day as Toronto Civic Holiday; at which liberal prizes will be offered, and that a concert be held at night.--Carried. 00 The Irish Supper and oncert the evening of St. Patrick's Day the Epworth League held an enjoyable evening's entertainment, Everything was Irish--the supper, the entertain- ment and the. decorations, Those who took part in the concert were :-- Miss Green, assistant teacher of elo- cution in Whitby. "at [P%8 "The Winnipeg progra number 'of early. closing: trotters and pacers, with $x $2000, and $2500 attach Calgary, it will' contain two. tro and two pacers, as Mri Proctor, w returned from' Lexington, Kentucky, has a couple of trotters in view, either one of which he is likely to buy. I'he shipment of these horses will | have an important bearing on' racing in Ontario and also in the West, for the reason that it will remove at least} one dangerous competitor, Grand Opera, from the slow 'pacing classes of the Canadian circuit, (Grand Opera is in rate good condi- tion at the present tite, as are all the Smith & Proctor horses. He had a short let-up after returning from the winter races: but is now jogged daily. Good local judges are of the opinion he will be a greatly improved horse over last 'season's form when he hits "the trail this season, and inthis case there is a whole lot of trouble ahead for the owners of side wheelers; that' will 'do battle for the big stake of the West this year.--Toronto World. 00 To the Editor of the STAR. Dear Sir: At the conclusion of Dr. Coleman's address last Tuesday eve- ning the mover of the. resolution of thanks to the lecturer kintdly mention- ed my name also, saying that to my efforts was due much -of the success of the series of entertainments "of the past two months If I had had oppor: tunity to reply I'should have - pointed out that the credit belonged to another source altogether, of which, the mover was probably not aware. Many of the ladies of thé town, chiefly those of the Shakespere Reading Club, made this course their own, and by their patron: age and their untiring energy in the sale of tickets placed before our citzens a seri¢s of lectures of rare excellence, They would not consent to my publicly mentioning their interest in the course, and hence my silence in the matter until now. 'But I feel. that honor should be given where. it 1s due. The High School owes a debt of gratitude to those ladies who so courteously and ficiently promoted the series of enter- aimnments.
