Judge's Decision re County Assessment His Honour Judge McIntyre hashanded down his decision in regard "to the equalization of the Outario County Assessment. It will be re- membered that the County Valurtors made their report to the County' Council which taxed Oshawa and Whitby and some other municipalities too low. The County Council raised Whitby and Oshawa asssessment much higher at the June session after a hot fight in which Lt.-Col. Sam Sharpe acted for a number of municipalities as against Whitby and Oshawa. By a mistake, the committee in finally adjusting the figures for Uxbridge, included certain exemptions which should not have been included. Whitby and Oshawa 'appealed against their amounts, and Uxbridge appealed in respect to the exemptions. Lient.-Col. Sharpe represented Uxbridge and other municipalities, and Lt.-Col. J. F. Grier- son and GD. Conant represented Oshawa and Whitby. There were two days for hearing the argument and presenting the case. His Honor Judge McIntyre bad several additional sittings, had the assessors bring their rolls before him, and he made searches in the Registry Office as to sales of land in the various municipalities; and he thus arrived at the equalization values for the whole County. Although the County Valuators fixed the whole value of the County property at $21,851,000, His Hononr fixed the value at $29,220,000. The assessment of. Uxbridge was lowered $10,000, and that of Cannington $48,000. Oshawa had its assessment raised $2,311,000,and Whitby Town by $630,000. The amount to be raised this year for County purposes is said to be $61,000. If this estimate is correct, according to His Honor's judgment Oshawa bas to pay $3,382 more taxes, and Whitby $699 more taxes. : Other increases are: Thorah $109, Uxbridge Township $106, Mara $46, and Rama $291. - Those municipalities whose taxes will be lowered are Uxbridge $405, Port Perry $65, Beaverton $86, Cannington $666, West. Whitby $50, East Whitby $923, Reach 220, Brock $592, Scott $502. These figures are only ely correct, and are subject to change according to the sum for Ontario Times. $790, : oak
