Thorn-Barrett The Marriage of Clara Pearl, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Barrett of Manchester to Mr. Harry ( Thorn, only son of Mr. and Mrs C, H. Thorn of Indian Head, Sask. was solemnized on Wednesday, Jan. 31st at the home of the bride's parents. The bride who was given away by her father, wore a dainty dress of white silk embroidered net over silk with pearl trimmings. The groom 's gift to the bride was a pendant set in pearls. Miss Wigg of Oshawa, a friend of the bride, played the wedding march. The Rev. Mr. Robt. McCulloch of Toronto, cousin of the bride, perform- ed the ceremony in the presence of nearly forty guests. After the wedding supper the happy couple left, amid showers of confetti, for a short honeymoon to Niagara and other points. Shortly after their return they will leave for Indian Head where they will reside. Among the guests from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. James McCulloch Toronto, Mr. and Mrs J. C. McGill Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. James Pearson and family, Oshawa, Mrs. L. M. Weeks, Detroit, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald McCulloch, Enfield. The bride was the recipient of many beautiful presen. Sonya A memorial service was conducted in the St. Andrew's Presbyterian church here Sunday morning for the late Robert Wilson who was killed in action on January 5th in France. LaGrippe has had a grip on a number of people in the last two weeks, Miss Greta Amey, Cannington, and Miss Edna McCully, Blackwater, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs, S. McFarlane last week. Cpl. Jackson spent the week end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Munroe. ~ Miss Clara Lunnéy has returned tome after spending a month in Baillieboro. Lieut. W. H. Penrose and Miss Loma Dure spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Watson. There isa move- ment all through the County to call in the officers from the outlying mili- tary stations. 000 Rumor has it that the 182nd Bn. will be taken to Toronto, and given a three weeks' course of drill before be- ing drafted into another Battalion, 000 Corp Jackson is expecting word to join the Royal Flying Corps at any time. 000 Sergt Hugo has been Placed in charge 'at Port Perry. 000 The 182nd Bn put on a big bill of fare at their concert in the Town Hall on 1 uesday night of last week. Some good moving pictures were shown, but owing to a break with "the curtain-the full lot were not given. The talent from Uxbridge did credit- able work especially the Brownscombe sisters, The attendance was not as large as might have been expected. The selections by the Port Perry 'Band were much appreciated. Manchester Mrs Weeks of Detroit nas returned home after an extended visit with relatives here. Mr Leslie James and family from Prince Albert, have moved to Man- chester Station. We welcome them to our neigeborhood. Mr Wm Davies was in Toronto last week and bought a team of very useful horses. He will move on his farm on the 6th Concession shortly. Miss Edna McKee is visiting with friends in Lindsay. Mr Charles Lamb from Lindsay was home over Sunday. Don't forget the Patriotic Social to be held at the homeof Mrs. J. E. Holtby on Friday evening of this week. A good program and supper will be provided. Admission 25¢ and -16¢c. John Ford commenced his duties as Treaswer of the Corporation of the Village of Port Perry in the place of Mr. J. H. Brown, who has resigned. Mr Ford has resigned his position as pastor of the Bapust church here after a pastorate of seven years. The resignation will"take effect at the end of this month. County Council Notes An objection was raised by" Mr. Mowbray, that the Seagrave bridge. erected by rhe Stratford Bridge Co, on the boundary line between the Counties of Victeria and Ontario, is not in accordance with the specificat- ions submitted by said company and forming part of their ' contract with these counties. Mr. Mowbray pointed out that one of the abutments is already cracked. He further stated that the Ontario committee disapproved of plan of said abutments, Lut the objection was ignored by the engineer of the above named company. On motion of Messrs. Mowbray and Mulvahill, the Clerk was instruct- ed to* write to - the Clerk of Victoria County calling attention to the above facts and stating further that the Council of Ontario declines to admit that the Stratford Bridge Co. has ful- filled its contract in connection with the building of said bridge. This motion was carried, and the Roads and Bridges Committee was empower- to effect a settlement of the matter. County Council appointed High School* Trustees as follows:--Whitby, A. T.
