A knitting contest was organized with Mrs Jas Byers and Mrs Jas Strong, as capt- ains. The object being the knitting of 500 pairs. of socks jn the next eight weeks. Last months work showed 75 pairs of socks, 13 dozen, flannel shirts made. Next meeting | will be held at the home of Mrs Jas Byers, to which Nestleton Branch are invited. Pogue The death occurred on Monday, January 29th, of William Pogue, of Scugog Island, one of the pioneers of this section. He was suffering from pneumonia. Though the disease appeared to be checked, the physical frame was not strong enough to recov- er its wonted strength, so he passed away on Monday, the 29th inst, at 10 o'clock p. m. He leaves a widow and three children. Much sympathy is- ex; Apressed for the bereaved family and friends. Mr. Pogue was a highly respected citizen, a member of the L. O; L' No 510. He was also a consistent mem= ber of the Methodist church. For a number of years Mr. Pogue was super- intendant of the Sunday School in Tabor church, before the union.
