Lak irh moderate When the Auditor's Report was presented, a request was made by some of the Council for a statement : 45 t= showing the revenue and disbursements for the year 1916 oaly. I have attempted to give such a statement in the above schedule, in which Mr. Widden kindly assisted, although it is hardly the work of an auditor to pick out items in this way, his duty being confined to the figures as they are presented to him. It will be seen that the 1916 Council received a surplus of $430.39 from 1915. This amount has been spent along with the year's revenue, leaving a shortage of $35.83, which may be increased a Tittle if all the 1916 taxes are not collected. However, there are some arrears of previous years which may come good and offset this. The average citizen may dismiss this matier by calling it "even-up" as far as the floating debt is concerned. In fact our Corporation finances are in excellent shape~ We have only $11,000 debentures to take care of. $8000 of these are actually Waterworks, but I think it must be pi to everyone that payment of the whole $11,000 must be made from assessment, as the Electric Light and Waterworks has all it can do to take care of its own debenture, of which $11,256 remains in'14 payments. In fact we shall be decidedly fortunate if we do not eventually have to use some of the Corporation revenue on the final payments, ET a DEBENTURE DEBT--Electric, Light and Waterworks (due in 14 payments, and being * from E.
