S. and the Fire Brigade were 'at home" to their friends at the Lodge Ruom in the Currie block on Tuesday evening of last week. A pleasing program was given and refreshments were served. The occasion was the pre- sentation of the carpet ball trophy which was won by the S. O. E. B. §. Mr. Douglas Davidson and daugh- ter, of Toronto, spent the week end in town, The Port Perry Citizen's Band have been engaged to play at the Uxbridge Spring Fair. Prize Essayists "How can thé Ontario High School Boy by working on the farm this sum- mer, help, first, himself; second, the Farmer; third, the Empire." This was the snbject of the prize essay to be written by High School Scholars. The "Trip Across Australia" shown last Friday and Saturday evenings gave an excellent insight into the difficulties met and surmounted by Birtles and of the wonderful sights that greeted him on that journey that only a camel or an auto could take. John Bright's Funeral | A number of Port Perry citizens | attended the funeral of the late John | Bright, at Myrtle on Wednesday after- noon of last week. Mr Bright was | buried with Masonic honors and a part in the ceremony. There was a large number of people present at the funeral from all parts of the country. Rev C P Muirhead and Rev W P Rogers conducted the funeral service, The floral tributes were very numerous and beautiful, several carriages were required to carry them to the grave at the Brooklin Cemetery.
