Dear Mr. Editor: Why oil the crossings and why oil both sides of the street at the same time? Lacking a sprinkler that can be shut off by the driver when approaching a cross. ing, some sand could be thrown on the crossings during the operation, which could be swept off afterwords. This would save pedestrians from walking in this sticky stuff, which is ruinous to white shoes, and tramping it in to places of business. If only one side of the street was done at a time, vehicles could save themselves by keeping to the dry side. . Oiling the streets has proved advan. tageous and the best preventative of dust that 'we have tried so far but we should not make the remedy worse than 'the disease. Pearse, of the Bible Christ- ian Conference, who was then stationed at Campbellford, Ont. Their home was blessed with five children of whom Mrs. Jas. Ward, of Pinedale, is the sole survivor. ; Mrs. Pearse with the charact- eristic energy which she never lost, joined her husband in his in the parsonage, But their oc- cupancy of the parsonage was comparatively brief for an af- fection of the throat compelled Mr. Pearse to withdraw from the active ministry. Then followed some years of adversity during which they lost everything by fire. "Though He slay me yet will I trust Him"' was the spirit in which they met their reverses, Some thirty-five years ago they entered into business in Port Perry and the reward of their faith, courage and diligence was given them. ' The same steadfast courage that was manifest in the home and business life wa$ also. evi- dent in her Master's service, in the culture of her own soul and in the various activities of the Church. She loved its services and was always present when possible. The work of missions was very dear to her and for a number of years she was District Superin- .endent of the Whitby District for Woman's Missionary Society and also President of the Port Perry Auxiliary. Like one of old she was full of good works--served her gen- eration and on June 26th, 1921, despite all that loving . hearts could do she fell asleep in Jesus at the home of her daughter.
