THE TORONTO EASTERN The most definite announcement that has yet been made regarding the Toronto Eastern was made last week by Sir Henry Thornton, the President of the Canadian National Railway, and Hon. Geo, P. Graham, Minister of Railways, in reply to a deputation from Bowmanville, Oshawa and Whitby, who went to Ottawa to off- set the Port Hope influences, where attempts were made to induce the government to abandon the original scheme regarding the Toronto East: ern and instead electrify the old Can- adian Northern 'between Orono and Malvern, Statements had been made by the Port Hope people that the re- sidents of Bowmanville and the other towns east were not anxious to have the Toronto Eastern built. The deputation was ful in making it clear to Sir Henry Thorn- ton and Hon. Geo. P. Graham that the residents of these towns were ex- tremely anxious that the government proceed with the completion of the line as soon as possible. The answer that was received was vdry satisfact- ory. The work will be proceeded with this summer and the road will be ready for traffic early in 1925. Thé reason for not completing it this year is on acocunt of finances, as the gov- ernment is economizing in every pos- sible way. 80 far no informaiton has been made public regarding the route to be taken between Pickering Village and Toronto, but that will be made at an early date. --Pickering News COAL NEWS Spring Announcement I have completed arrangements whereby | receive a regular supply of D.L. & W.,, and D. & H.
