Wilkinson. Mrs. I. M. Ilsen, who has been elected a member of the Zonta Club, New York, which is the Women's Rotary Club, paid a flying visiting to friends and re- latives this week. Her work consists of musical activities in the tubercular hospital of Great- er New York. She is also asso- ciate secretary of hospital ser- vice. Miss Mayrienne Short ,of To- ' ronto, is holidaying at her home in Port Perry. Mr. Geo. Powers of Rochester, who has been camping at Lake- side Park, returned home this week, after a very enjoyable outing. ----()() QPreme. A PLEASANT EVENING After all the weather was very favorable for the commun- ity gathering which Mr, Hutche- son staged at Lakeside Beach, Scugog 1sland, on Tuesday even- ing. The Port Perry Band pro- vided the music. It is not stated who furnished the rails, but there was a bonfire (a real good one) ; community singing, and the favorite square dance. A very large crowd attended this social function, which was such a pronounced success that it will likely be repeated. It is said that a new feature was introduced in the square dance by "Tommy." Aug. 28-24 Os ORVAL BYER Brampton, August 22--The nent merchant of this town, oc- curred this morning at Welles- ley Hospital, Toronto, after an illness of nearly a month. Mr Byer, who came to Bramp- ton, from Port Perry, two years ago, purchased the drug busi- ness of T. J. Dawson, and during his residence here had made a host of friends in both social and business life. He was a Methodist, a Mason, and an Odd Fellow. The late Mr. Byer was born in Stouffville district, and the funeral took place at Stouff- ville on Sunday, from the resi- dence of his brother-in-law. He was buried under Masonic aus- pices, by brethren from Port Perry, Brampton and Stouffville. A wife and one small boy sur- vive. BOWLING NEWS On Wednesday afternoon, August 20th, the local bowling club had a tournament of Scotch doubles; amongst-the-club-mem- bers. Eleven couples took part dur- ing the afternoon and evening, resulting in J. Nasmith and A. Orchard, winning out with .F. Taggart and Wm.
