HORTICULTURAL .SOCIETY 'I'ne bulbs are nearly gone. At the time of writing there are a few lett at Davis' Urugstore, 'and 1f you would uke to have some for the house, or for a flower bed for spring decoration, now 1s the time to get them at less than wholesale cost. But iL you want them you'd better nurry. 'talking of Hyacinths, at the meeting on Thursday night of last week, Mr. Moore, 'L'oronto, gave directions for their plant- mg tor successful growing in the house. ; Kirst secure a box having more than enough room to hold the number of pots required for the hyacinths you intend grow- ing. 'I'hen place a layer of about two inches of cinders in the bot- tom of the box; next plant your hyacinths in the pots, being care of two points. 1. Place some 'broken: fragments of crocks in the bottom of the pot Lor drainage, covering this with a little fibrous material before putting the soil in the pot. 2. Do not completely bury the hyacinth bulb, the tip of which ghould be above the earth. Nor should the pot be completely fill- ed, an inch or more of room should be left at the top. Next place your pots in the box after having watered them thorough- ly. Fill in around the pots with cinders and cover them with the same material to a depth of two inches. These boxes and pots should be placed in a dark, cool place; where the temperature does not go much above fifty degrees, or below twenty-five degrees. These bulbs should remain in this state for about six weeks, when they should be thorough- ly rooted, and may be taken out of their cinder bed, and brought "into a' slightly warmer room, but not exposed to a great deal of light. As the plant develops, it will require more heat and moisture. Mr. Moore's lecture was very practical and was beautifully illustrated. Unfortunately the weather was most unfavorable large. . mtestatel()() (Jems .
