McINTYRE MUTUAL LIFE STATEMENT The largest net earnings in its his- tory is the proud record of The Mutual Life Assurance Company of Canada for 1926, as shown by its fifty-seventh Annual Statement, pub- lished to-day. The year was also rendered dis- tinctive by the writing of the largest volume of new business in the Com- | pany's history, totaling slightly over fifty million dollars, and by the re- duction in the ratio of expense to income to the ldwest point in the Company's history, namely 15.11%. The net earnings of the Company in 1926 amounted to $4,141,875.70, an in- crease over the preceding year of $344,303.29. This amount is the most important item, in the entire statement, inasmuch as in it all the transactions of the year are involved. The surplus or net earnings constitute the final result of the year's business and the Policyholders who constitute the Company will benefit exclusively. Although the Mutual Life of Can- ada has long had a reputation as an economically-mangaed Company, the management succeeded in bettering all previous records in this respect in 1926, when the ratio of expense to.in- come decreased from 15.28% to 15.11 %. This showing is all the more re- markable when it is considered in conjunction with the fact that no less than $50,039,348 of new assurance was issued 'during 1926, an increase of $4,465,771 over the preceding year and constituting the largest volume of new business written in the Com- pany's history. The writing of such a volume of 'new business necessarily meant a large outlay and the reduction of the "| expense ratio, in the light of this February Delineator 25c. THE FEATHERED FOLK (Continued from front page) tree and we hope that by and by we shall have the pleasure of welcoming them back again. While hunting in the pages of the Christian Guardian for June 22nd, 1870 for information on another subject we came It is not included here be- cause of any literary merits, though it may possess some, we do not know enough about the canons to say. It is added because it is about blue-birds and is old enough to possess some of the across the following poem by H. K. P. qualities of an old vintage. Bird of the Spring! What dost thou bring To childhood's heart and mine? No sounds are heard, Of swift-winged bird, So pure, so sweet as thine. Without a fear Thou'st ventured here From some far sunny clime: The thrilling note Thy dainty throat Pours forth, is most divine. The joyous strain Q'er mount and plain Like tinkling waters run, The flowers will hear The music near. And say the spring's begun. The school-boy out With 'merry shout Answers thy kind refrain. In rapid flight Mid golden light The song floats back again. It brings us dreams * Of mountain streams; Of early wildwood flowers; Of green hillside; Of rivers wide; Of spring-time's fleeting hours. "Of Reavy shade By dark leaves made Beneath the sultry noon; Of sweetest things. That summer brings; Of sunshine, song and bloom. The voice of Spring! On blue-bird's wing, We welcome thy first note, As hi d th On softened air - The echoes seem to float. December, A.D., 1926. JOSEPH P. MANGAN, Solicitor for Applicant. COMING A. J.
