Gamble and sisters wish to extend their thanks to their many friends in Port Perry for their kind- ness and expression of sincere sym- pathy during their recent bereave- ment, ---- rn EFFIE V. GAMBLE. Miss Effie V. Gamble, whose death took place on Wednesday, the 16th day of March, was born on Scugog Island, coming to Port Perry at the age of eleven years, where she fin- ished her public school education at the age of twelve. Entering the high school and obtaining her Second Class Certificate with honotirs at the age of seventeen, standing as one of Port Perry High School's most bril- liant students, she procured her Normal Certificate with honours in the fall of 1906, after which she com- menced her work with the Port Perry Public School, and as well a teacher in the Methodist Sunday School and active worker in the Epworth League for a number of years. Deceased "was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs, John Gamble and leaves three sisters and one brother to mourn her loss. God has called a loving sister, Beckoned to the great beyond, Midst her work with little loved ones, He has whispered low, come on. She had worked, with love and kind- ness, Never tiring, never sad, Always hoping that in some way She might make some sore heart glad. But the unseen hand so mighty Took her from us ere we knew, And the only comfort left us: It was God, and that He knew. She has just gone on before us, To a world that knows no pain, And we know with His assurance Our earthly loss means heavenly gain. Having received the assurance of many local organiza- tions that they will lend a hand in the celebration, the Council has de- cided to invite every organization in town to send two representatives to this meeting, while those interested in sports and local amateur minstrel or vaudeville productions will also be asked to attend. As noted before in these columns there is no reason whatever why Whitby cannot arrange a celebration befitting so -important an event, and it only requires the de- termination and united effort of the citizens to carry plans for such a celebration to a successful conclusion. --Whitby Gazette. ---- (res.
