Jackson & Son THE READY ARTISTS The green is in the meadow, and the blue isdn the sky, And all of Natyre's artists have their colours handy by, With a few days bright with sunshine and a few nights free from frost, They will start to splash their colors quite regardless of the cost; There's an artist waiting ready at each bleak and dismal spot, To paint the flashing {tulip or the meek forget-me-not." May is lurking in the distance and her lap is filled with flowers, And the choicest of her blossoms very shortly will be ours; There is not a lane so dreary or a field so dark with gloom, But that soon will be resplendent with | its little touch of bloom; There's an artist keen and eager to make beautiful each scene, And remove with colours gorgeous every trace of what has been. Oh, the world is now in mourning; round about us all are spread The ruins and the symbols of the winter that is dead; But the bleak and barren picture very shortly now will pass, For the halls of life are ready for their velvet rugs of grass, And the painters now are waiting with their magic to replace, This dullness with a beauty that no mortal hand can trace. The green is in the meadow, and the blue is in the sky, The chill of death is passing, life will sho greet the eye. We shall revel soon in colours, only Nature's artists make, And the humblest place that's sleep- ing unto beauty shall awake; For there's not a leaf forgotten, not a twig neglected there, And the tiniest of pansies shall the royal purple wear, pp SCHOOL OPENING DANCE | The ex-students of Port Perry High School are planning a dance to follow ~~ "A number of persons were heard re- questing certain street improvements and the matter will be taken up for early consideration. . A request was made for oiling of Lilla street to the northerly end of the skating rink. A communication was read from the Bell Telephone Company asking for the opening up of certain streets for telephone extensions. A grant was made to the Port Perry Rink Company equal to the amount of the taxes and electric light accounts collected--the sum being $110.47. A by-law was put through author- izing the oiling of certain streets in the Village of Port Perry. 1027, Francis George MeClintock, in his 61st year. Any information leading to its recovery will be greatly Appreciated by Alf. Andrus, re -- EXTENDING THE WATERMAIN. A request has come in to the Coun- cil for the extension of the Water- main in that part of the town. This is a very proper request and could very well come from the south end of the town too. Some sections of the municipality are not any too well pro- tected in case of fire, and if any reasonable plan can be devised to in- stal mew watermains, 'the Council would be warranted in going on with the work. It has been the custom for councils to put down new watermains where there are likely to be a sufficient num- ber of users to make the main self supporting. That is safe going, and a Council is always to be commended for carefulness, Yet there might be \something in the matter of invest- ment, too. Suppose a number of householders promised to take water but not a sufficient number to make Port: Perry, on Monday, April 25th, | the outlay pay. It still could be good, business for the Council to invest the money with a view to future business and added fire protection. That is the way the Bell Telephone Company make their extensions. The writer can well remember when he was the first telephone user in the 'same district that is now asking for a 'watermain. Poles had to be put in from the main. street going north, something like $50.00 being spent on poles alone, many phones in that locality and the Tele. phone Company has long since real- ized on that. investment; but it was a money losing 'game at the time, In that same locality the feasibility of putting "in water into houses was often discussed, mains were too far away, and dividual householder did not fi OWLEDGE, Skill, Bly 'sien Cok misfaceo ment and Organization than any other form a combination of world because is .
