Ferguson in his paper showed the improvement: that has taken place in recent years in the training of Secondary school teachers. CONGRATULATIONS Miss Isabel Lucas has passed with honours into the fourth year of the University of Toronto. Mr. Gordon Martin, of Stevensville, is spending his holidays in town with his parents, Mr, and Mrs. Daniel Boe celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on Sunday. There family were all pre- sent. ---- -- CLEMENTS-WILSON A very pretty wedding was solemn- ized at the home of the bride's parents Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Clements, of Sea- grave, on Saturday, June 8rd, of Laura Irene, eldest daughter, to Chas. Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Wilson, of Myrtle Station. ' The cere- mony was performed under an arch of evergreens and apple blossoms with a large white bell suspended in the centre of the room. Rev, Mr. David- son, B.A., B.D. officiating. The pride who was given @way by ner brother, Elmer Clements, looked charming in a beautiful dress of white satin, car- rying a bouquet of roses and lily of the valley. The bride was attended by her sister Miss Alma Clements, who looked very becoming in al gown of blue crepe de chene and car-| ried roses and Narcissis. Mr. Leonard Beadle supported the groom. Miss Myrtle Jeffrey, of Scugog, played the wedding march. The groom's gift to the bridemaid being a vanity bag and to the best man, a set of cuff links. Following the ceremony a dainty wed- ding luncheon was served. The happy couple left later by motor to spend their honeymoon in Detroit and points west. The bride travelling in a gown of grey crepe de chene, grey hat, blonde shoes and stockings, blue coat and grey fox fur, the gift of the groom. On their return they will re- side in Oshawa. Oe CELEBRATES 50th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Trebell, Port Perry, celebrated the fiftieth anniver- sary of their wedding on Saturday, June 2nd. Many of their friends and neighbors called during the day and extended congratulations. In the even- ing a number gathered at their home and presented them with a purse and a wedding cake as a token of friend- .ship, While Mr. Trebell is not in the best of health, he was very pleased to have his many friends call. Each of the guests came bearing gifts to Captain. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Bowerman, and Miss Cora Bowerman,.of Detroit, were unabe to be present, but sent presents. The following members were pre- sent--Reeve Somerville and Council- lors W. Crosier, J. E. Jackson, and James McKee. Hon. John 8. Martin, re control of weeds. We hope the Council will take action on this. The property committee were em- powered to buy such flags as were required for the town hall, band stand, dock house, ete. Mr. Arthur Taylor was engaged to cut the grass, and generally care for the water front at $8.00 per week. The road committee was authorized to replace the sidewalk from the Sebert House corner West to the Bank of Commerce, on Queen street. - Councillors J. E. 'Some idea of the attendance can be gained from the fact that at the Laymen's Banquet on Thursday night some 3876 laymen and ministers took part. The outstanding speakers of the Conference were Rev. C. H. Goodell, D.D,, of New York; and Rev. Leyton Richards, of Birmingham, England. Rev. Dr, Goodell gave a series of ad- dresses which wefe characterized by simplicity and a true spirit of devo- tion. He also preached the ordination sermon on Sunday, .
