Laffin were in Osh- awa on Friday. Quite a numbef attended the Leask sale in Port Perry on Saturday. * Mr. Walter Lamb is leaving this week for his home in the West. Mr. Lamb has been the guest of his mother for nearly three months. The monthly meeting of the Women's Association and W.M.S, will meet ab the home of Mrs, H. Leask, on Wednesday afternoon, March 13th, at 3 o'clock. All members are re- quested to be present. "The. services of the United Church were well attended on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. Rowe and family, of Whitby, Mrs. T. Lamb, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lamb, of Toronto, with Mr.cand Mrs. J. Shunk, on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Will Clarke and son Harvey, accompanied by Mrs. L. Scott and Mrs. R. Scott and son Beverley, visited in Oshawa on Satur- day with friends. Miss Vera Tanner has returned home from Port Perry. * Mr. Leonard Beadle and Mr. Elwood | Clements of the Goodyear Rubber Co., Bowmanville, spent the week end with their parents. Mr. and Mrs. P. Ripley and Miss Daisy, visited with relatives here on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ripley are leaving this week for their new home in Oshawa. They were the recipients of somé beautiful gifts from their friends recently. We all wish them m- | missed by those who knew them. Mrs. John Mark is also con- fined to her home with illness. We all wish them a speedy recovery. RE he, RESPECTED CITIZEN PASSES > BEYOND ' There passed away on Thursday, February 21st, 1929, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L..G. Brown, Mrs. Emily Abbott, widow of the late John Abbott. She was born in Yorkshire, Eng- land, May, 1850, and was the oldest of seven children. When 7 years of age she came. to this country with her parents in a sailing vessel, and "settled near Whitby. From there she went into Reach Township and later moved to Port Perry, making her home there until 1914, when she moved to the farm. She lived there until last October, when she came to the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. G. Brown. In 1882 she was married to Mr. Robert McKinley. Two children were born to them, Mr. Clarence McKinley, of Vancouver, and Mrs. Oldfield, of Toronto, both of whom survive her. In February 1888 she war married to Mr. John Abbott; two children were born to them. Mrs. L. G. Brown, at whose home she was at the time of her death, and Mrs. Geo. Welsh, who died last May. There are five grand- children. Mr. Abbott predeceased her, bein® buried just three years ago. She is survived by ene brother, Mr. Hartley Robinson, of West Lorne, and one sister, Mrs. Charles Carney, of Ingersolh. When quite a young girl she made a profession of religion and worked with the Port Perry Baptist Church, which was the only church home she ever had. She was a'very active member of "the church, often enter- taining the Ladies' Aid in her home on the farm. Her end came quite suddenly and unexpectedly. Like Enoch of old who walked with God, she just quietly slipped away into her heavenly home. The funeral service was held at the home of her daughter and was con- ducted by Rev. J. R. Baldwin, of Ux- bridge.
