Davis', Port Perry, on Thursday, April 18th. a AT PP F™r ONTARIO SWEPT BY SEVERE ICE AND SLEET STORM Telegraph and telephone communi- cations and power lines were all inter- upted throughout Ontario, by the storm of Sunday night and Monday. While our district did not suffer very heavy damage, telephone and power lines were badly damaged. The power "Tine between Orilliaand Brechin was badly daméged, about five miles of line and poles were blown down, con- sequently Port Perry was without light and power for two days. Port Perry seemed to be favored as we have not heard of an great damage being done in the village. Whitby United Church Tower was blown off, causing damage amounting to about $1,000. Master Paul Martin is spending thi Easter holidays in Oshawa. Quite a number attended the church service on Sunday to hear Rev. Mr. Merriam preach his Easter sermon. Glad to report Mr. Geo. Smith is able to be up and around again after his illness. Sorry to report that Mrs. Valentyne is again on the sick list. We all hope for a speedy recovery. Mr. Howard Franklin had the mis- fortune to have his barn partly wrecked with the high wind of Mon- day last. The Ladies' Aid meeting will be held at the home of Mrs, Alice Tanner on Wednesday, April 10th. CHEVROLET DEMONSTRATION The Chevrolet Motor Company and Beare Bros. their local dealers, en- tertained a large number at the town hall, on Thursday evening, when slides were shown giving clear cut pictures of the different parts of the new Chevrolet and its working parts. Each slide was explained in detail as to the part it does or makes up to the build- ing of this new six cylinder car. There were also moving pictures showing Canada and the Chevrolet from coast to coast. At the conclusion of the demonstration Beare Bros. gave lucky number prizes won as follows: Ist prize, men, (Goodyear Tire) --Lloyd Hunter. 2nd prize, men, (tube) V. Crosier. Ladies' (chocolates)--Miss Franklin. Children's--1st, Grace Switzer. 2nd, Virginia Nasmith. 3rd, Mike Naple. _ If you do.not get your paper in due time this week, blame the hydro power or the weather man. Owing to the power being cut off on Monday and Tuesday we were obliged to set up some of the type by hand; (of course a much slower process.) How ever the power was turned on Tuesday night and we are again out of the darkness and have power to run our UNITED CHURCH CHOIR During the wiriter months the choir of the United Church, Port Perry, of various members of the Musical ing held at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Christy, in January. and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Jackson, for the month of March. hai The former practice was for an- niversary musical preparation and the latter for Easter service. ; A large attendance was both gatherings showing thé appre- ciation and esteem the choir holds towards these hospitable functions.
