D. E. REMEMBER OUR VALIANT DEAD The annual Memorial Service of the Scugog Chapter 1.0.D.E. was held at Pine Grove Cemetery last Friday evening. For some years past it had been the custom of the Order to set aside one day to decorate the graves of Port Perry's soldiers who answered the last Bugle Call and to gratefully recall the sacrifice of those heroes buried here or.elsewhere. Nature provided an evening of the best possible kind for "the occasion, and created a setting to go with it. All around the well-kept cemetery with its fresh greenness; overhead a canopy of blue sky with 4 blood-red sun sinking on its western edge, It was a scene that was beautiful and at the same time conducive to solemnity and reverence as befitted the occasion. The service was opened by singing the hymn "O God Our Help in Ages Past", followed by the prayer of the Order. Mrs. Geo. Jackson gave an appropriate address for'the occasion, She spoke about War, Peace, and the gallant part played by those whose memories they were now recalling. L. Friday evening last the Port Perry Softball team proved the nemesis for the Whitby bat artists, With Sam 'Naple going great guns in the box and 'the lelders giving him nearly errorless support Port Perry took the game easily 14-6. i Whitby's runs were well scattered. In the third they got three and in the 'sixth and eighth one. Port Perry hit two Whitby pitchers freely. They drove in four runs "the first inning and were never behind getting sofe runs almost every time, Tom Harris was 'the leading run getter. Starting off 'with a smashing homer in his first 'trip to bat, he piled up four runs for the team. Closely following him were 'Brock. and Gerrow who got. three apiece. Forrester, Whitby third base- man got three of his team's five runs.' Showing form like this Port should be able to give any team in the league a good game, The next home game is at the campus on Monday. North Oshawa vs. Port Perry.
