Bring sample, GROCERIES, BOOTS & SHOES CROCKERY, two the air as to whether a plebiscite is democratic, point to the idea that if a Government wishes to sentative of the Jeople, a plebiscite should be a 0 ill of the people on any ect. No Government can represent all the people on all subjects | before the people. Indeed, a Government may quite easily be out of touch with the real wish of the people on a given subject, while enjoying the confidence of the people on many other matters under their control. That is the real problem of Government "representative" in that the people may vote the t ou of orice if on the whole the people lose confidence in their repre- sentatives. The fact is that voting a Government out of office is an ex- pensive piece of work, and does not always cure the evil. On t questions where there is an hanest difference of opinion it t better to trust the "common-sense" of the people, and to, give them an opportunity to express their will upon that subject with- out any political entanglements. It is not fair to put loyalty to party and loyalty to principle to too great a test in matters where the public welfare is concerned. No matter how well the present Government may be able to carry their Liquor Control policy in the heat of a political battle, the question will not down, and some day will have to be submitted to the people. It is to be hoped that we do not have to pay too great a price for that right before we as voters in Ontario secure the opportunity to exercise that right. Three Injured in Auto--One Fatally On Sunday afternoon last, a party of Toronto motorists were proceeding along the Provincial Highway from Whitby to Lindsay. As they approached the intersection of the Highway and the 6th Concession of Reach, they collided with an auto driven by Mr. Andrew Marshall, of Port Perry." The car was turned over and all the occupants were injured. The injured persons were--Mrs. 'W. H. Davies, who suffered two fractures of the left leg; M. W, H. Davies, who has a dislocated shoulder, four broken ribs, and a pierced lung, (Mr. Davies died on Tuesday night;) and Mr. James Rowles, who is suffering from shock, bruises, and injured elbow. The victims of this auto accident were put under the care of Drs. Jeffrey & Rennie, and are at present in Port Perry Hos- pital. Particulars of the accident are so confused in the matter of reports, and as the matter will likely be investigated, that a proper report cannot be given at this time. Ry ._"e.g _ .o : Face Badly Injured. Last week, a young man named Barnes, who was working for Mr. Myers, of Utica, was helping with a sawing machine, cutting wood. A nail in a piece of wood caught in the belt of the sawing machine, and the piece was flung into the face of Barnes, who was badly cut about the eyes and nose. .The unfortunate young man was hurried to Dr. Mathers, where he had his wounds dressed.
