His second wife was Miss Lottie Robinson, of Port "| Perry, to whom nine children were Mr, "Sandy" Fairweather, of Nor- wood, spent the week end here visiting with friends. Mr. and Mrs. S. Farmer left on'Sat-' urday for Halifax where Mr. Farmer will attend the Weekly Newspaper Association Convention, Mr, and Mrs Gooderham and family of Powassan, have moved in to Mrs. Leask's house on Crandell street.. Mr. Gooderham is in the employ of the Game and Fisheries Department, and will look after their interests in this district. We welcome them to our village. Mrs. Ada Wickett, of Whitby, is visiting with friends in town. The Port Perry Schools will re- open, on Monday, September 15th. Four men's rinks and 4 ladies' rinks from the Lindsay Bowling Clhb were the guests of the. Port Perry Bowling Club on Tuesday evening. It was a Jitney Tournament in, which a great deal of excitement was pro- voked. The Port Perry Band were at Can- nington, on Sunday, and furnished the music for North Ontario County L. O. L. service in the Park. The General Motors Picnic is to be held in Oshawa, on Saturday of this week. The usual big program of sports will be run off. Sweetman's Garage and the Town Council are making much needed im- provement in the sidewalk in front of the garage. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Crandell and daughter Marion, of Thedford Mines, Que., and Mrs. Crandell and daughter Gertie, of Montreal, spent the past two weeks with Mrs. Kyle. The service was conducted by the Rector of the Church of the Ascension, Rev. F. A. Nind, assisted by Rev. Wesley Elliott. The floral tributes showed the esteem in which the deceased was held. The pallbearers were members of Old Eng- land Lodge--Messrs. Chas. Taylor, A. W. Allin, T, J. Widden, Wm. Ettey, Walter Cook and Geo. Davey. HOLD MEETING The Woman's Missionary Society of the United Church held their first meeting since the holidays in the par- lor of the Church, on Wednesday of this week, with their president, Mrs. R. B. Smallman, in charge. The program was in charge of Mrs. W. H. Harris, and consisted of the history of the authors and the cir- cumstances under which a number of hymns were written and the influence that many of them have had during the years. The hymns were "God of Bethel", Before Jehovah's Awful Throne," "Rock of Ages," Abide with Me," "Nearer My God to Thee," "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." OOO CAR BADLY SMASHED Mrs. Alton, of Toronto, had a very narrow escape, while motoring to her home in Valentia on Wednesday. While driving alone the Port Perry- Seagrave road near Honey's Corners, something happened to the car and it run into the ditch and upset and was badly smashed. Fortunately Mrs. Alton was not seriously hurt but is suffering badly from the shock. eee (sme. Lodge, will be held in the lodge room, On Saturday aft Septemb 6th, a pretty wedding was solemnized at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George A. McMillan, when their eldest daughter Mabel R. McMillan, R.N., was married to Arthur H. Stevens, B.Sc.A., of Guelph. beautiful in a princess gown of white crepe satin and a veil caught with orange blosoms. She carried a bou- quet of white gladioli and lilies of the valley. She was accompanied by her bridesmaid Miss Helen Hatton, of To- ronto, who'was eharmingly gowned in a yellow flowered chiffon frock and who carried Ophelia roses. Little Miss Helen MeMillan, niece of the bride, made a dainty flower girl; and Mr. Harvey Stevens, a brother of the groom, acted as best man. The ceremony was conducted by the 'bride's uncle, Rev. R. S. McMillan, of Elrose, Sask, assisted by Rev. C. E. Dyer, of Greenbank. Miss Mona Leask 'played the wedding march and during the signing of the register Miss Florence McMillan sang. Some thirty five guests were present, After a buffet luncheon, Mr. and Mrs. Stevens left for a motor trip to Ottawa and Montreal.
