Hodgson visited with Mr. and Mrs. C. Gear, of Utica, on Sunday. Mr. Thos. Lakey of Utica, with Mr. Geo. Smith, on Saturday. Mr. R. Bradburn has hired with Mr, H. Brooks, for a time. Mr. F. Martin has been drawing logs to the saw mill of late. Mr. J. Barber has recently pur- chased a new radio. Mr. L. Allan visiting with Mr. and Mus. Jas. Barker. BLACKSTOCK Last Wednesday being Ash Wed- nesday, a special service was held in the Anglican Church in the evening and a service will be held each Wed- nesday during Lent. The Women's World Day of Prayer was observed at the United Church on Friday afternoon, last, with a good attendance of women from both the United and Anglican churches. The meeting was presided over by Mrs. A. Johnston, president of the W. M. S,, and the regular program followed. The twelve prayers were taken by Mrs. A. Johnston, Mrs. F. Stinson, Mrs. C. Hill, Mrs. E. Dorrell, Mrs. R. Taylor, Mrs. N. S. McNally of the United Church, and Mrs. R. Mahood, president of the W. A,, Mrs. F. Bailey, Mrs. A. Bailey, Mrs. L. Graham, Mrs. W. Crawford and Mrs. T. Smith, of St. John's Anglican. Mrs. C. Mar- low presided at the piano during the singing of the hymns. On Friday afternoon 13th, the pupils and teacher of the public school entertained a number of under school age friends to a valentine party and social time in the school room. All report a most enjoyable time. The February meeting of the W.A. of St. John's Church was held at the home of Mrs. John Forder on Thurs- day evening of last week with an at- tendance of 24. The meeting opened with devotional exercises conducted by A. Bailey "Making the New Year happy," an instrumental by Miss F. Fair, a reading by Mrs. W. Crawford, "She Wouldn't Work," a reading by Mrs. T. Smith, "Grandmother". Lunch was served as usual, Congratulations are extended to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Larmer on the birth of their baby girl, on Monday, February 16th--Beryl Edna. Mr. and Mrs. T. Smith and Mr. W. VanCamp, were in Lindsay on Tues- day of last week. The Crokinole party held in the chool room of the United Church on Wednesday evening last by the Young People, was well attended and enjoyed by all. The prizes were won by Mrs. Jos. Forder and Mr. Geo. Bowers. Miss Mary Parr entertained a num- ber of her friends to a euchre party on Monday evening last. = The prize winners were Miss Florrie Parr and Mr. Chas. Venning. A dainty lunch brought a very happy evening to a close. We are sorry to report the illness of Mrs. Robt. Spinks and Miss Eva English and hope they will soon be better. Mrs. Naysmith Henry and daughter of Janetville, are visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Bailey. The euchre party held in the town- ship hall on Friday evening last un- der the auspices of the L. O. L. had only a fair attendance. Prizes were won by Mrs. Percy VanCamp, Mr. O. Wright. Lunch was served and a good time enjoyed by all. Ten years ago the 9th of Feb. the Women's Missionary Society of the Blackstock United Church was or- ganized. The members of the so- ciety thought it fitting to commemo- rate date in some way; this they did by holding a tea and concert in town- ship hall. On Monday evening, Feb. 16, Mr. and Mrs, Richard Stinson were pleas- antly surprised when about eight o'clock eighteen self-invited guests be- gan to arrive. When all had as- sembled, the object of their visit was disclosed when Mr. and Mrs. Stinson were presented with a purse of money in honour of their fifteenth wedding anniversary. After several interest- ing speeches including those from the bride and groom, the evening was spent in a happy social time and the partaking of Manch.
