Anderson have just returned from a very pleasant trip to Ohio, where they visited with friends. "That machine does the 'work of ten men. It almost has brains." "Not if it does all that work." There was no question but that the porter did have a very red nose, One old lady was bold enough to ask him, "What makes your nose so red, porter?" "Oh, pride, madam, pride," an- swered the porter. "It's simply blushing with pride because it doesn't poke itself into other people's busi- ness." LEAVING TOWN Owing to the removal of Sutcliffe & Sons from town, Miss Ida Downer will return to Lindsay where we under- .stand she is to have charge of the Elmsmure Apartments. L There will be general regret be- cause of Miss Downer's removal from Port Perry. She has always been most generous in her service to the church and community and has con- tributed largely to their pleasure by her assistance in the singing. When Miss Downer was in Port Perry some years ago she was a valued member of the choir of the Methodist Church, and it was a real pleasure to find her again in the choir in the United Church. We trust that both Miss Downer and her mother may find a pleasant home in Lindsay, with good opportuni- ties for service. Their many friends wish them "God Speed." The Women's Association held an especially enjoyable meeting in the Centre School grounds last Tuesday afternoon, August 11. The tables decorated with flowers made a very pleasing picture as the members were seated around them. The program had been arranged for an outdoor meeting. Following the opening hymn Mrs. F. Crozier read a call to worship from Psalm 95, and the mem- bers joined in the Lord's Prayer. The 104th Psalm was read by Mrs. H. Fra- lick, seemed to have a large meaning as we had but to lift up our eyes to see the blue canopy of the heavens stretched out like a curtain and the pdrifting clouds and the green trees and hills and valleys of which the Psalmist spoke. The poem "Summer Suns are Glowing" as read by Mr. Joblin was much enjoyed. Mrs. D. Hope contributed a beautiful reading on the subject of "Prayer" which was followed by a duet by Mrs, J. Milner and Mrs. G. Sweetman. After a short business session the meeting was dis- missed by Mrs. N. Crozier. Then a large number sat down to the splendid lunch which the ladies had prepared. The proceeds amounted to $20.00. We are glad to see that our Sun- day School is steadily increasing in attendance and interest. A new plan is being tried out in the Young Peo- ple's Bible Class. One pupil, previous- ly appointed, introduces the study by reading the lessén with the classes and by asking a few questions. Mr. George Samells introduced the lesson last Sunday and did well. We believe this will be a good' project in teacher training. : Mrs. (Rev.) Denny and daughters from Epsom, who "are occupying a cottage at Lakeside were among the visitors at the Centre Sunday School last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Geo.
