Bailey on Wednesday, evening the 24th. The program will be in charge of Rev. and Mrs. Whit- taker, Miss F. Parr and Mr. C. Hamil- | ton. Mr. and Mrs. T. Smith spent Sun- day with the latter's parents, Mr. and | Mrs. F. Lambe of Manchester. Miss Marjorie Marlow of Toronto spent the week end with her mother Mrs, John Marlow. Wednesday of last week being Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent, an evening service was held in St. John's Anglican Church and will be continued every Wednesday evening during the Lenton Season. Miss Sheriff of Toronto is the guest of Miss Agnes Whittaker, On Tuesday afternoon of last week a silver tea was given by Mrs. Whit- taker and Mrs. Fred Willan at the Rectory. After the opening hymn the remainder of the afternoon was spent with music and contests; the lucky ones in the latter being Miss F. Parr and Miss E. Hooey, to whom prizes were awarded. Lunch was served b; hostesses. No, present 30 and the amount of the silver collection $6.40 to this was added $5.00 a donation from Mrs. ittaker's sister, Mrs. Lucas, wife of Bishop Lucas of Tor- onto. Mrs. S. A, Devitt who is spend- ing the winter at Richmond Hill sent down some lovely bouquets of tulips | and sweet peas to help beautify the rectory for the occasion. Mr. W. Pasoce of Brussels visited his friends the Smith Bros. on Tues- day last. Miss F. McLaughlin of Toronto and Miss Kate McLaughlin, of Peterboro spent the week end with their parents, r. and Mrs. J. R. McLaughlin. Miss Ethel McLelland and friend Mr. Mountford of Toronto were recent week end guests of Miss Vera Forder. The World's Day of Prayer was held on Friday afternoon last in St. John's Church. The meeting was conducted by Mrs. Robt. Mahood, president of e W. A. assisted b rs. (Rev.) Newell and Mrs. (Rev.) Whittaker. On Friday. afternoon the 12th inst. the teacher and pupils of the public school entertain ed a number of under school age friends to a valentine party and social time in the school room. Brignall SCUGOG Friends and members of the Wo- man's Association were entertained in the Township Hall last Tuesday after- noon, by group 4 who had everything arranged very nice and comfortable. The meeting opened with our presi- .dent, Mrs. G. Sweetman, in the chair. The Serie reading was taken b; Mrs. C. Fralick, a reading by Mrs. D. Hope, "God Cares", a solo by Mrs. A. McKenzie, a story by Mrs. G. Samells. The secretary's report was read adopted then the roll call, Mrs. Joblin gave a reading. N A number of business items were attended to. The call came for supper of scalloped potatoes and all other good things. We all have a very enjoyable time together at those gatherings. i The League last Wednesday evening was well attended, the meeting was in Sharge of our 2nd vice president, Mr. Ray Milner, the subject was "Mission- ary". The meeting was opened by singing and prayer. The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted The scripture reading was read re- sponsively led by Miss Helen Carter. The Bible study was in charge of Miss M. Sweetman. Mr. L. Sweetman had charge of the topic which was very ieresting. The meeting closed by singing and repeating the League BE to followed by a contest of {ombled letters of different kinds of irds and animals found in the Bible in charge of Mrs. Geo. Hood, which was very amusing. League will be held on Thursday evening of this week instead of Wednesday. Mr. A. Gerrow will have charge, Everyone come. The Executive of the Young People have made arrangements for Mrs. Annand of Port Perry to address the Young People of Scugog in the Centre Church on Thursday evening of this week. Those who have had the pleasure of hearing Mrs. Annand will not want to miss this opportunity and all are cordially invited to be The Young Men's Choir wi with special music. The Woman's Association held their entertainment on Monday evening. It was well attended and very muc| enjoyed. The teachers had their schools nicel: decorated for St. Valentines and a the pupils had a good time last Friday ving and receiving Valentines. The hildren enjoy a Food time along with their work as well as we older ones. Mr. and Mrs. F. Jones and children of Brooklin were Sunday guests of her sister, Mrs, E. Lee. Miss Reta Milner of Toronto, was week end guest of her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. Milner. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Samells attended the funeral at Prince Albert of Mr. Rosswell Dobson, on Sunday, Miss Grace Mark was the guest of | her friend Miss Zella Hope on Sunday. Mrs, G.
