The local Tennis Club held its initial meeting at the Town Hall on Thursday last. Business was dis- cussed and plans made for the en- suing season. Officers for the year were elected as follows: Hon. President--Mr, B, D. Henry Advisory Committee--Messrs, C. C. Jeffrey, R. Levia, W. L. Parrish. President--Mr. Alfred Andrus Vice-President--Miss Sylvia Nind Sec.-Treas.--Mr. Grant Robertson. Committee Members--Terry Woods, Eric Nasmith. The progress of the previous year was reviewed and commented on. All the windows of the Town Hall had been covered; a net had been secured; a Tennis Tournament for the mem- bers was conducted and prizes were given to the winners. Financial ob- ligations had all been met and a cash surplus was carried over. There were some thirty paid up members last season. Plans for the coming season call for converting the present sparsely sodded court into a clay or cinder court and erecting a suitable back stop between the Town Hall and the sidewalk at the north-east corner of the court." It was decided to arrange a tournament to be held early in the summer. The suggestion was also made that some matches be arranged with nearby clubs. The question of a suitable means of marking the court was considered. The tapes, used last year, did not seem to meet with general favour and a new system will likely be tried this year. This question was left over for the executive to decide. The fee for the year was set at $1. per member. This amount was ar- rived at after considering the ex- penses necessary for operation and was deemed low enough to permit anyone to join. Last year's members and new mem- hers wishing to join are requested to give their fees to the treasurer as soon as possible so that sufficient credit will be obtained to ensure no delay in fixing up the court.
