Harvey Barnes and James Myers have rented the Sonley farm on the 6th concession of Reach and are busy getting the seeding done. We regret to learn of the very serious illness of Mrs. T, Sonley, but we hope for her speedy recovery. At a recent meeting of the Board of Management of Breadalbane Pres- byterian Church, Hervey J. Barnes was appointed caretaker of the ceme- tery, succeeding the late Jas. Bentley. All parties wishing to have their plots cared for will therefore consult Mr. Barnes whose address is R.R.4, Ux- bridge. Mr. Gordon Cormack was home on Tuesday. Born to Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Wag- ner, on Sunday, May 29th, a son. Died, on Thursday evening in the Sick Children's Hospital, Toronto, Allan Clark, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clark, aged 13 months. The funeral took place from their home on Sunday afternoon. Inter- ment at Uxbridge cemetery. The sympathy of the community goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Clark in their sad bereavement. A pleasant afternoon was spent at the home of Mrs. Geo. Smith, when a number of the family met there to celebrate the 90th birthday of her mother, Mrs. T. Lakey. The family presented her with a bunch of roses. She also received many other gifts and cards from friends. Mrs. Lakey, who makes her home with her son Thomas, is hale and hearty, although her memory has failed her somewhat. Of ten children, seven are living, al- though they were not all able to attend. Among those present were: Mr. John Dalton, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Dalton, Mr. and Mrs. C. Webster and family, Mr. and Mrs. T. Lakey, Mr. 'and Mrs. C, W. Lakey, and Miss Edith Lakey. Serry to report the death of Mrs. Johns, on Tuesday morning, May 31st. The sympathy of the community goes out to the family. Funeral was pri- vate on Thursday. Mr. Walter Howsam visited in Sarnia one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Prentice of Port Perry, visited on Sunday with there son Mr. Norman Prentice. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs, L. Wagner, on the arrival of a baby boy. Commencing next Sunday, Epsom Sunday School will be held at 10.30 a.m. for the summer months. Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Ashton and Mr. and Mrs. Herb Ashton and son, of Ashburn, visited friends here recently. The people of this community were! shocked to hear of the death, in the | Sick Children's Hospital, Toronto, last 'I'hursday, of Allen Clark, little son of Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Clark, as word had been received that he was on the road to recovery. The parents have the sympathy of this community. Mrs. Geo, Hart of Uxbridge, visited on Monday, with Mrs, Jos. Ashton. Prince Albert Miss Dorothy Davey, of Toronto, spent Sunday with Miss G. Martyn. Holiday visitors to the village were Mr, Young, of Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Jeffrey, Toronto, with Mr. and Mrs, Cecil Jeffrey, Mr. and Mrs. Foster and family, opened up their summer home and Mr. E. Philp and family, Toronto, with his uncle Mr, E. Philp. Mrs. Lambkin, who has been in poor health, is we are glad to report, somewhat improved. Mr. and Mrs. New and daughter, of Toronto, Mr, and Mrs. Forest and sons, of Oshawa, and Mr. and Mrs. Stoughton, of Oshawa, were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Murphy. Mr. and Mrs. Wm, Martyn and Mr. Murphy, spent the week end in To- ronto, going there to attend the Milk Producers Association. The friends of Mr. Trevarton in Prince Albert, wish to extend their sympathy to him on the loss of his wife, Mr, and Mrs. Trevarton were residents of this village for many years, leaving here to move to their Shirley farm. Mrs. Trevarton held a very high reputation for making good butter and was highly respected by all. } Mrs. Northcote and Miss Ruth 'Northcote, of Toronto, are visiting Mrs. Northeote's father, Dr. Camp- bell. A number from here motored to Valentia and viewed the remains of the two barn fires which occurred on Friday afternoon and evening. The two unfortunate men being Mr. Boyd Sharpe and Mr. Jack Swain. The death of Elizabeth Broad, be- loved wife of the late James Varcoe, occurred at her home. in' Toronto on Tuesday morning. . The funeral ser- vice was held from her late residence, 864 Manning Ave. on Thursday and proceeded by motor to Zion cemetery for burial. The service was attended by friends from near-and far, and was conducted by Rev. Mr. Green of Sea- grave. The pall-bearers were Messrs. | D. Varcoe, Milton Yerex, J. Stevens, F. Broad, Dr. C. O. Broad, and H. Mark, She leaves to mourn her loss, one sister and two brothers, Mrs. David , Yerex, Mr, Frank Broad of Oshawa, and Mr. Thomas Broad, of Toronte: We extend to the beremved our deepest sympathy. SCUGOG Sunday School at the Centre has another interesting feature added to the adult class. The young men are taking charge--a different ane each Sunday--Mr. Maurice Fralick and Mr. Sydney Chandler had charge the past two Sundays. The girls are holding their own in the tug-of-war. The first meeting of Lake Scugog Junior Girls' Institute was held last Saturday at the home of Miss Carter with an attendance of fifteen members. The President, Miss W. Niddery, had charge of the meeting. After singing the opening ode, the roll call was answered by a garden hint. Miss Myrtle Sweetman then gave an interesting talk on her re- cent trip to Guelph. Miss Margaret Black spoke on the composition and necessary daily use of vegetables. This was followed by a piano duet by Mrs. Geo.' Samells and Miss Doris Williams, Miss Helen Carter showed pictures of different varieties of vege- tables and spoke on the growth of each, Miss Ivah Milner gave a read- ing on "Health" after which several items of business were discussed. The meeting was then adjourned and a dainty lunch served. The Head boys went to Prince Al- bert on the 24th for a game of foot- ball and came home ners with a score 3-0. The Prince Albert boys will play a return game on Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. H. Wilson of Janet- ville were guests of 'Mr. and Mrs, Roy Henders on Sunday. Brock & Son's recently. Mrs. J. Morrish, of Toronto, and her sister Mrs, W. Ramsay, of Roblin, Manitoba, visited for a few days with their brother Mr. J. Aldred, and called on a number of other friends before returning to Toronto, with Mr. Mor- rish and Mr. Aldred. Mr. and Mrs. Ramsay go to London on June 7th to attend the golden wedding anniver- sary of his parents. Miss Elva Elford, of Toronto, has finished her studies for this term and is home with her parents at the parsonage. Mr. and Mrs, H. Cannan, of To- ronto, were Sunday guests of her parents Mr. and Mrs. O. Raymes. Mrs. G. 'Midgley, of Port Perry, spent a few days recently with her cousins, Mr, and Mrs. H. Williams. Miss Bernice Sweetman, Toronto, visited her parents for the holiday. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Samells spent the 24th in Oshawa and attended the field sports there. We congratulate her brother, Mr. Archie Crozier, on winning a couple of medals. Mr. Sydney Chandler had charge of the Bible Class on Sunday at the Centre, We are pleased to see the young men taking up the Sunday School work. Miss Elva Elford will have charge next Sunday.
