Don't forget our Fall Fair to he held on Wednesday of next week, 21st, The ladies of the United Church are serving supper as usual in the base- ment of their church. In place of the customary chicken pie there will be roast fowl. In the evening a concert will be put on in the armouries under the auspices of the Agricultural So- ciety. , The following pupils are motoring daily to the Bowmanville High School to get their Upper School subjects: Olive VanCamp, and Messrs. Arnold Johnston, Ralph VanCamp, Robert Wilson. We trust their efforts will The September meeting of the A.Y. P.A. of St. John's Church was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs, C. Smith, on Wednesday evening last with an attendance of 35 members and wisit- ors, The meeting opened with de- votional exercises by the president assisted by the rector, after which the necessary business was dispensed with, The program which was to con- sist of an item contributed by each member consisted of a fine variety of readings, contests and musical selec- tions. Lunch was served by the group in charge and after a hearty vote of thanks was tendered the host and hostess for their hospitality, the meet- ing closed in the usual way. Mrs. Robt. Archer has been visiting with friends in Toronto. Miss Agnes Whittaker, nurse-in- training, in the Oshawa Hospital spent the week end with her parents at the rectory. Misses Aileen Devitt and Pauline Ferguson are attending the Peterboro Normal School. We wish them every success. The annual Harvest Home Services will be held in St. John's Anglican church on Sunday next, 18th, when a former rector Rev. J. J. Robbins of Markham, will be the speaker at both the morning and evening services, Special music will be furnished by the choir. A very pleasant evening was spent in the township hall recently, it being the occasion of a very fine miscellan- eous shower presented to Mr. and Mrs, Dawson (Miss Laura Bailey) in honour of their marriage. Dr. C. E. Whittaker, as chairman, presented the gifts on behalf of those present. The groom, speaking for his bride and himself, thanked one and all for the many beautiful and useful gifts and said a warm welcome would be waiting at their home in Windsor for anyone able to visit them. The re- inder of the evening was spent in dancing and a social time at the close of which lunch was served and the bride's cake passed. : Mrs. Robt. Fallis-- |year in this locality is the Port {Perry Fair. One of the mais events of the There are bigger Fairs, but there are none that represent this com- munity except the Port Perry Fair. And the representation in exhibits is excellent. In no rural commun- ity have we seen better displays of the products of the soil, splendid stock, and the evidences of the skill and good taste of the ladies in all that pertains to the home. Port Perry Fair compares very favor- ably with much larger Fairs in this respect. There are two reasons: 1. We have a good farming com- munity. 2. Good prizes are offered. attention to the exhibition building which is being put into attractive shape, and will house exhibits of great interest and value. Be sure to see the displays by the Scugog Girl' Home Garden and Canning Club; and the Manual Training Dept. of our High School. Baseball Tournament Baseball fans should be pleased with the program of ball games to be put on at the Port Perry Fair. There are to be two tournaments--Hardball and Softball. Evidently hardball is regaining something of its old- time favor in this locality. Under the management of Mr. Harry Peel, Port Perry is building up a good team, and the Agricultural Society is arranging to put on a tournament with three other picked teams at the Fair. Sutton, Sunderland, Little Britain, and Port Perry teams have entered for the hardball tournament, so you may be sure of an excellent game of ball.
