The building was totally destroyed, together with the season's crop. The fire is, thought to have started from the gasoline engine which was being used for grinding purposes. At the time of writing we have riot learned to what extent the property was insured. We are very sorry to learn of this great loss to Mr. Short. EARLY SHOPPING Two facts should be remembered in connection with (1Christmas buying. The first is that--if you can afford to buy Christmas presents, the need for your business has never been so great for many years. The mere refusal to spend money will not end a depression. It will only ag- gravate the situation. Every closed pocket book adds to |the financial distress of the country. Some pocket books 'Imust be closed. Honour requires that the small store of cash be carefully guarded; that just debts be paid; and that there be no extravagance. : BUT, if you have money, you can be thankful that you have, and can show your appreciation of the blessing by sharing it with others. This may be done in two ways --one by remembering your friends in the kindly fashion of Christmas. The other is to remember the unfortunate There is no famine in our land. Our real wealth is as great as ever it was. What is troubling us as a people is fear. The world needs to regain its courage and faith, If these qualities are not retained, even well-to-do people may find their riches (?) useless. Money is of no value if it is not used. The second fact to remember is to BUY EARLY. ~ Embury & Spencer SPECIALIZE IN FIRESTONE TIRES Gas, Oil, Repairs on all makes of Cars. The meeting closed with prayer by Mrs. Murphy. The hostess served a very dainty lunch, The November meeting of the Man- chester W. M. S. was held on Thurs- day afternoon 'at the home of Mrs. Ernest Holtby, The president, Mrs. W. F. Walker, presided. The opening hymn was "Gratitude" written by W. E. Dyer, of Toronto. It is an Empire song of thanksgiving for the recovery of his Majesty the King from his re- cent illness. Mrs. Murphy offered prayer. The Scripture lesson, the Ten Commandments was read respon- sively. . There was a short business session. Mrs. W. Dobson rendered a pleasing piano solo. Then Mrs. Rev. Denny of Epsom gave a special talk on "Peace".
