This proved very interest ing, but somewhat difficult for the| judges as each sample of candy was so very good. But firially their de- cision was: Mrs. R. Prentice and sons Frank and Hugh, of Port Perry, visited his brother Mr. Alf. Prentice, on Sunday. Mrs, Martin and daughter Vera, of Port Perry, visited her sister Mrs. R. Brown, on Sunday. "Mrs. Geo. Sweetman and daughter Mrs. Newell and her little son George, of Toronto, were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Sweetman, over the week end. : Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gerrow visited in Oshawa over the week end. Our snow: and winter seemed to have passed away on Monday, and some of the farmers hitched onto the plows to try and get finished up. But on Monday night another fall of snow came and it looked quite wintry again on Tuesday morning. Mr, and Mrs, F. Baxter of Toronto, spent a pleasant week end with Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Jackson. Mrs. H. Demers visited her sister Mrs. J. Raymes one day last week. We are glad to hear Mrs. Raymes is improving after her recent illness. Scugog friends are glad to héar Mr. Murrell Stone is improving after his operation, recently. All the women who have been sending their cream to Mr. A. Goode's Creamery, were very much pleased with the beautiful calendar for 1988, which they received last week. Mr. and Mrs. J. Aldred and Mr. Ray Milner, visited Mr, and Miss Taylor, in Cartwright, when they enjoyed a roast dinner and spent a social even- ing. . Mr. Sydney Chandler is helping Mrs. Stephenson for the winter. Mr. and Mrs. C. Graham and family High School Commencement at Ux- 'bridge, last Friday evening. The Men's Choir, assisted by the Bethesda Quartette, had charge of the United Church. Next Sunday evening there will be an exchange of ministers and choirs, with Sunderland. ® & Prince Albert Mrs. Thos. Wauchope and daughter Betty, have returned to Toronto, after making her mother, Mrs. T. Turner, an extended visit. Mr. and Mrs. Clarke and little daughter have returned from North Cochrane and are visiting Mrs. Clarke's parents Mr. and Mrs. George Heayn. Mr, Clarke has been doing missionary work up there and reports the poverty of the people as extreme nearly every family receiving Pro- vincial relief, and religious services being very -occasional in. the different settlements. Two former residents of this village were laid to rest. in the Pine Grove Cemetery during the past month, these being, Mrs. Thos, Swift and Mr. Monroe Strait. Both of them died in Toronto and the bodies were brought to the family plots for burial. Some fourteen .ladies enjoyed the hospitality extended by Mrs. Richards of Port Perry parsonage last Wednes- day afternoon. The weather was mild so that the attendance was large. After the business meeting, during which quilt making was discussed, a short program was given and al- though it was short it"was most en- joyable, after which a dainty lunch was served. We are sorry to report that the Misges Tewkesbury are on the sick list. The homes of Mr. Foster of Toronto and Mrs. McBrien, have been closed for the winter. Mr. R.
