The late Mrs. Hurlbut was of a wonderful disposition, and a cheerful and patient sufferer. She had been blind for the past twenty years; but did not allow the great affliction to life. 'Her passing is. greatly regret- ted by her large cirele of friends who, express their sympathy to the be- sxeaved family, Those who. remain tof mourn her passing are two sons Mr. Lewis Hurlbut, Palmerston; and Mr. LEE ha Lt.-Col. R. B. Smith, ding officer of the Ontario Regiment, in- formed the officers and their guests at its annual dinner last night, and had been sent out of recognition of the fact that his earlier days, while living in Whitby, Lord Greenwood had been a member of the Ontario Regi- ment. This handsome painting is at the present time being suitably framed; and will be hung in the officers' mess at thé Armouries, said Col. Smith, in public expression of the appreciation which 'was felt by the officers of the regiment to Lord Greenwood for his splendid gift. The further news was given by Col. Smith that the officers' mess at the armouries was to be redec- orated immediately, orders provid- ing this having just been received from the engineers' staff at head- quarters in Toronto. These two announcements were received: by the officers and their guests with loud applause. MYRTLE 'Much sympathy is extended to Mrs. Levi Tordiff in the death, last week, of her mother, Mrs. Hurlbut. King Winter has been in full force for some days. Frosty winds accom- | panied by bizzard like snow falls has quite expelled any idea one might 'harbour that cold weather was a thing of the past and it was quite unneces- sary for one to go south to enjoy warmer climates.
