McClelland The Port Perry MoJacks pushed their 'un-defeated streak to five games Sunday night and remain on top of the standings in the Central Junior C Hockey League. And they did it'in very con- vincing fashion with a strong 11-2 victory over the Eagles in the Bowmanville Arena. The win, coupled with a 4-4 draw against the same Eaglesiflast Thursday evening at the Scugog Arena, gives the MoJacks nine points so far on four wins and one tic. Coach Ken Harman was very pleased with the effort from his troops in Bowmanville, especially their ability. to capitalize on scor- ing chances. Sunday's game was actually pretty close for the first 20 min- utes as the MoJacks opened a 2-1 lead on goals by Scott Erickson with his second of the year and Mike Coulson with his third. Eagle captain Dean Baumhauer got his team on the board with a power play marker at the 2:44 mark. Clair Cornish rounded out the scoring in the opening frame with a short-handed effort at 16:42. Hg took a pass from Brad Menzies, moved in from the left side, faked the big slap shot and then slid the puck along the ice past a surprised Chris Massey. It was the 6th of the campaign for Corfiish. The second period was just 58 seconds old when Kevin Bagshaw fired his fourth of the season, a shot that seemed to fool Massey. That made it 4-1 and at this point, the. MoJacks began to take control of the game. A string of Eagle penalties let the MoJacks go to work on the 'power play and they scored three in under three minutes. Jim Vernon: from Cornish; *Coulson with his second of the (game from Vernon and Cornish and Jeff Barr with his first of the year from Frank Kavanaugh and Chad Lefevbre did the damage. Menzies from Cornish; Mark McKay from Troy English; Greg French un-assisted and Vernon from Menzies ran it into double figures for the 11-2 final. Ian Cooper got the start in goal for the MoJacks. He didn't have a real busy night in the cage but looked very comfortable against his former team-mates. Cooper ended up in a MoJack uniform this year after the Eagles opted to sign Chris Massey as an oyer-age play- er and make him their starting goalic. Youngster Geoff Smith is being groomed as the back-up. Cooper has been very steady so far in the MoJacks green and white. Sunday's game. was chippy: in places, especially when: the MoJacks began to "run the score." John Lally and Greg Goode had a - brief scuffle in the third with no serious dam Whew here ¢ teams hooked up Iast Thursday night at the Scugog Arena, the MoJacks squandered a marvellous opportunity to run their winning streak to four straight. They enjoyed leads of 2-0 and 3-1, but in the end had to settle for the 4-4 draw. : MoJacks had numerous chances to bury the Eagles, but were vic- tims of bad bounces, goal posts and their own erratic shooting. Aside from a brief stretch in the third period, the MoJacks set up from Clair Cornish. For Lally, it was his fourth in as many games. Three minutes later, Jim Vernon upped'it to 2-0 with his third of the year as Cornish and Brad Menzies got the assists. Greg Goode put Eagles on the Mike Coulson rounded out the scoring as he cut in front and buried a belly-high shot for his second of the year. Lally' and Peter Young drew the assists. MoJacks had their best chance to put this one in the bag early in- the second when they had a two- man advantage for more than a minute. Despite a fair amount of puck control, they had few decent chances. In fact, Basil Luciano, making his second start in the MolJack cage had to come up with a big save by sticking out the right arm on an Eagle breakaway. + Luciano, - who's from Stouffville, was tested sharply as the MoJacks ran inio some penalty trouble of their own midway through the period. Atom A's count up two more victories The Port Perry Malmont Atoms continued their winning ways with a pair of victories in recent The team remains un-defeated so far this season as coach Lee Wilbur and assistant Derek' Schmitt are getting total effort from their young troops. These two come-back wins' should boost the team as the boys get ready for a tournament in Trenton this coming weekend. + Malmont opened the season . October 11 with an exciting 6-5° victory over Cobourg and earlier in the month they came away with a 3-2 win over an Oshawa team.
