MINOR HOCKEY PEARCE AUCTIONS . The weekend of Oct. 24-26 saw Port Perry Novice I facing three of the more challenging teams in their On Thursday evening, Pickering visited Port Perry. The goaltenders received a good workout at the hands of the Pickering shooters. It was a long evening for coaches Spencley, Parry and Empririgham, who saw a shoot-out with 16 goals being scored -- 12 for Pickering and 4 for Port Perry Friday evening we travelled to Cobourg to face a team that had pre- viously trounced our boys. The Port Perry team surprised the home team with outstanding goaltending from & Chris Monsma and D'Arcy Stephens 10 post and exciting 5-3 win. Steven Wygerde's strong hustle resulted in one Port goal assisted by Grant Hooker. Braden Tarbotton had two and Jason Whitworth completed the Saturday afternoon found the Pearce Auction squad in Lindsay. Adam Maynes and Chris Skerratt combined to the scoring in the second period. On Friday night, the Port Perry Legion Pee Wee 'A' Team travelled to Cobourg for their second league game against this team. Everyone was pleased to see Jason Logan return to the line-up for the season. He appears to be fully recovered from his injury judging by the way he played. Port had a slow start this time. The third period saw tempers flair and an increase in penalty minutes, The Cobourg team seemed to gain speed and control but Brian Bickmore in net hung tough adding to Cobourg's frustration. MALMONT ATOM 'A' On Oct. 25, Port Perry's Malmont team travelled to Cobourg for a league contest. The always competitive home team got revenge for a loss in Port by skating to a cise 4-3 victory. Dillan Weber led the Malmont effort with 2 goals on assists from Seth Gray, Justin Kowalczyk and year atom Brad Johnston and defence- Peterborough! man Scott Harper. To Malmont's credit, they put out a tougher effort and upset Cobourg 5-3 thus gaining a berth in the tourna- ment Consolation Final. The key was a quick start as Malmont charged into a 3-0 lead. Derek Tindall flipped in rebound off Justin Kowalczyk's point- shot to start things rolling and our other markers were by Troy (unassist- ed), Seth, Casey and anotheg at the end of the game by game MVP Derek Tindall. Dillan picked up three assists with other assists contributed by Justin Kowalczyk and Casey. Goalie Corey Branton was unable to stop a Cobourg penalty shot goal though he gave a good account of himself throughout this weekend play. They continued to dominate the ice, lighting up the scoreboard a total of 10 times and allowing only one goal against. Sunderjand's goaltending kept Port from doing any double digit damage. Lady Luck could in Oak 4 RINGETTE IVORY FOREST JUNIORS Sunday October 27, the Ivory Forest Juniors took to the ice in their season opener with wihgs on their skates. " Facing off against the Junior team from Mississauga, Port Perry quickly took control of the ring and very sel- dom relinquished possession. A very strong team effort resulted in a 5-2 win in Port's favour, Shannon Fox was responsible for two of Port's goals with singles going to Karen Kett, Jennifer Smith and Dawn Doucette. All team members turff® in a very determined and well executed effort. The forward lines fired away 29 shots, Karen Kett, Leea Kinnunen, Shannen Fox, Amy Parliament, Jennifer Smith and Dawn Doucette combined to keep the pres- sure on the Mississauga goaltender Wioughout the game. On defence, Kim Poppleton, Michelle Fitzpatrick, Jennifer Morden and Megan Marlowe proved to be almost impenetrable as they kept Mississauga's total shots on Tracy Pelow throughout the game down to nine. All members of the Juniors mumed outscored us for a 5-3 win. M goalie Daniel Lee made some nice saves in this and the other games but had no when left for two Kingston breakaway goals. Kingston's final goal was into the , empty net as the Malmonts pulled out all the stops looking for the tying goal to no avail, Port Perry goals were by Adam Jones (from linemate Scott Jeffrey), Seth Gray (from Casey and Dillan) and Casey (from Seth). Back when it looked as if there would be no one running in Ward 4, | was one of the ones that helped tak David into running. Why? At first glance he seemed 100 quiet, not the type you would expect to be in Politics -- David was one of the group that founded Zero Garbage and has sat on the steering committee since ifs inception: | must admit, in the first few meetings his input was so minimal | wondered why he was on the committee.
