McClelland Talk about a topsy-turvy weekend for the Port Perry MoJacks. It was the toughest three-day stretch in the: schedule so far this scason, but the tcam came out of it with four of six points. Friday night in Uxbridge, MoJacks feasted on the falier- ing Bruins and ran up two touchdowns and a single to coast home with a 15-5 victory. The next night in Lutle Britun, MoJacks went into a major tail-spin and were defeated 5-3 by the hard-hitting Merchants, And they rounded out the weekend Sunday in Bowmanville where it wok a late goal by Mike Coulson for a 54 victory. In Sunday's game against Bowmanville, the MoJacks opened a 2-1 lead in the first with Jeff Barr snapping home a wrist shot at 6:39 and John Lally clicking with the same kind of shot at 14:04. Both goals came with MoJacks enjoy- ing a two-man advantage. The team opened a 4-1 lead in the second as Greg French scored off a scramble in front of Drew Campbell at 6:27 and Lally, with his second of the game made it 4-1 less than a minute later. MolJacks looked to be preity much in control of this game until Eagle Rob Real ok a. five minute penalty for decking MoJack goalie lan Cooper with an clbow. MoJacks failed to score on the manpower advantage and as soon as the penalty was over, Eagles Kelly Chalykoff popped onc to make it 442. A few moments later, Eagle Brad Robinson went into the boards head-first and had to be taken from the icc on a stretcher. He appearcd to be trying to check MoJacks Jim Vemon who stepped out of the way and seemed to push Robinson as he went by. This touched off a melee that led to fighting majors 10 Vernon and Clair Cornish as well as a five minuie major (checking from behind) to Vemon. Robinson's injury was not belived to be serious though he ined of initial in his arms and legs. ; Taking advantage of the five minute major, Eagles hit for two quick ones at 13:19 by Real and at 15:11 by their lead- ing point geucr Shane Armsurong and the game was tied al Topsy-turvy weekend for MoJacks four, cach. Eagles seemed to have picked up all kinds of momentum but Mike Coulson threw cold water on the fire at 15:47 48 he calmly fired a back-hand off a rebound 10 give Molacks a 54 lead that held up. The incident involving the Eagles Robinson was fright- cning, but from this writer's vantage point, Vernon was standing still and gave Robinson a push with the glove as he was going by. Vernon did not "run" Robinson into the boards from behind: Vemon may end up siting a couple of games for taking a second game misconduct and likewise Comish for taking a double game misconduct. (second fight) And forward Scou Erickson is on the shelf for four games afier taking a match penalty for cross checking in the Little Britain game Sawrday night) : The Merchants seem to have Port Perry's number as they handed the MoJacks just their second loss of the season Saturday night in Little Britain. The first loss came in Lie Britain exactly two weeks carhicr. Merchants play a tough, gnnding style and take the body al every opportunity anywhere on the ice. And they have the team for it, with a host of heavyweights and several mid- dleweights who just like to knock people down, The opened a 4-1 lead in the first period on a pair of goals by Jeff Adams and singles from Sieve Roberts and Dave Holiday. Mike Coulson, who was the best Molack on the ice and has been superb all season, got onc on the power play just past the mid-point. Jeff Barr, who has been playing fine hockey for the MolJacks in recent games, cut the margin in half at 11:23 of the second as he worked in from the left side with passes from Coulson and Mark McKay. Certainly, the wmiflg point in this one came late in the - second when Merchants Jesse Austin was assessed three penalties (five for fighting and two minors) which gave Molacks a ninc<minutc power play. And, you guessed it, they failed to put a puck in the net daring this nine minutes and the penalties were no sooner over when the Merchants Jeff Budden deflected one past Cooper to put the game out of reach. Coulson with his second goal and third point of the game from Erickson and Lally rounded out the scoring. This was a game to forget for the MoJacks, Pod just couldn't seem (0 get anything going. That Wasn't the case Friday night against i year's league champion Uxbridge Bruins. MoJacks opened an 8-2 first period lead to sew this one up. Then they added seven more (0 make it 15 in the largest single game scoring binge in memory. Jim Vernon had three goals and two assists and Mike Coulson had two with two assists, Clair Cornish hag one goal and three assists with Brad Menzies getting four helpers in this one. Other marksmen in this blow-out were Kevin Bagshaw with two and singles 10 Jeff Barr, Jarrett Hargaan, Frank Kavanaugh, Dan Sluggeu, Scon Erickson, MAK McKay, and Peter Young. For the Bruins, Dan McNeil and Greg Cook had two cach. SLAPSHOTS: MoJacks now have 28 points on 13 wins, two tics and two losses, in first place, Six points up on Cobourg. There were no other Junior C games over the weekend, but Lite Britain played Cobourg Monday night. Molacks are getting some fine work from players whose names don't appear on the score sheet 00 often. Rookies Brew Puckrin and Gavin Cochrane have been strong along the blue ling, likewise Chad Lefevbre, Troy English, and Frank Kavanaugh. On the forward lines, Jeff Barr is proving most effective as a two-way player with Jarrett Harman, Dan Sluggeu, Greg French and Mark McKay working hard and wrning in good cfforts over the last several outings, Trevor Mcintyre is back with the club and performing well. He'll get better with more games under his belt. Likwise the newest MoJack, defenseman Brian Shelfoon who suited up for the first time against Bowmanville. Molacks failed to score on a nine minute power play in Little Britain and in five minutes against Bowmanville. Maybe they should decline the penalty next time. After two straight Saturday night losses in Little Britain, guess where the MoJacks are this coming Sawurday. Right back in Merchant country for a 7:30 stan. They finally get home to the Scugog Arena on Sunday, Dec. 8. for a tilt with the Lakefield Chiefs. Face-off} is 7:30 pm.
