You know, the one you remember putting in the garage last spring, but can't seem to find in the mess that some- how built up over the last six months. "With snow on the ground, you're all ready to go down the street and out on the nearest trail. However, you may have forgotten some of the laws and regulations. HERE ARE A FEW REMINDERS 4 1) no riding on sidewalks 2) no riding on lawns or any pri- vate 3) no riding on Queen, Simcoe (Lilla) Street or Highway 7A 4) snowmobiles cannot be operat- ed within the limits of Port Perry or Prince Albert between 1:00 AM and 7:00 AM The speed limit in parks is 20 o KM#r, and on roads where the limit Fis posted 50 KM. On highways there the posted limit is greater than 50 KM/hr, or on trails, a snowmobile should not 50 A - If anyone wishes more details on these, and other laws, they are found in the Township of Scugog By-law 83-89. Port Perry Snowmobile Club war- dens, the Township by-law officer and the Police are enforcing these laws. This means anyone convicted of breaking any of the laws or regula- tions can be fined a minimum of $50. Any person with a valid driver's licence can operate a snowmobile along the side of the roads in Port Perry, except for this previously men- tioned. They may also cross side- walks at 90 degree angles. A person 12 years or older can operate a machine if holding a motorized snow vehicle licence. For those who enjoy trail riding, you are welcome on the trail systems maintained by the PPSC, but you must have a.1992 trail permit on the machine you are driving. Anyone caught riding on the trails without a pene con be charged with trespass- his is spelled out inthe "Revised Statute of Ontario Motorized Snow Vehicles Act" Chapt. 301 Sect. 2. The same applies to the tise of ATV's on the trail system. The only exception to this law is for the landowner of the property over which the trail passes. If you wish to buy a trail permit, you can do so be contacting myself, Marion Lee or at retail outlets that include Asselstines, Willy and Sons, Port Perry Variety and Pineridge Sports.
