Comeback for Canadian Tire Midget Islanders vs. Markham Canadian Tire Midget B Islanders played in Little Britain on Monday, January 13. Little Britain wasted little time in scoring when they banged one home with only eight seconds elapsed on the clock. Goal by Jason Jacobs from Pete Wardlow. The Islanders settled in to play hockey but lacked the zip to do any scoring, but at the 12:25 mark in the first period the Isles were awarded a goal. With a delayed penalty being called against Port, the Little Britain goalie started for the bench, but the defence shot the puck into their own open net. The goal was awarded 10 Simon Traynor who ironically got the delayed penalty. The only other goal came at the 5:53 mark of the second when mark Cosway converted a pass from Lindsay Parry. Final score 2-1 for Port. First play-off game was played Thursddy, January 16 in Pickering These awo teams are cvenly matched and it will be a good series. Pickering scored early to take a 1-0 lead. Late in the first period, Blair Prechitko carried the puck from one end to the other and fired a bullet pasi.the Pickering goalie. Assist 10 Todd Sman. Pickering scored in the second period to take a 2-1 lead which looked like it was going 0 stand up. Late in the third period the Pickering team were called for icing with 25 seconds to go. This was an exciting game which found the mb ge tied at 2 at the end of regula- Steve Desautels scored both Port goals assists to Jason Coutoulakis and Chad Garvock. In overtime, a cheap penalty allowed the opposi- tion a penalty shot and to score a 3- 2 victory. The heart breaking loss put the Isles in the "B" consolation semi, against Markham who previously beat us 3-0. Late in the first period, Markham scored two to take a 2-0 lead into the second period. The Isles played solid hockey and late in the second Jason Coutoulakis scored from Chad Garvock and Steve Desautels 10 make the score 2-1. At the 8:23 mark of the third Chad Garvock scored to tie the game at 2-2. Assists 10 Mark Cosway and Darrel Vander Slagt. Sunday, January 19, consolation "B" Final at 2:00 p.m. against Whitby. This game featured solid two-way hockey by both teams, goaltending was superior, good passing and something almost unheard of - every forward bac kehecked and broke up play after play. At the end of regulation time the score was 0-0. First overtime period elapsed, still tied, second overtime elapsed, still ved. Players from both teams, the Green Machine and the Grey Thuderjets were "giving it their all" from the opening face-off. And as there were no substitutes, all the players were on the floor from stan 0 finish. This exciting match ended in a 98 victory for the Thundenjets, but everyone deserves a loud cheer for their efforts and stamina. The first period ended in a 3-3 deadlock as Tyler Houthuys popped home a pair of goals with one from Stefan Stenyk for the Green Machine. Glenn Thompson with two and Danny Halward with a single responded for the Jets In the second frame, the Jets moved ahead by a narrow one-goal margin as they scored four times Halward had two, Thompson had one as did Trevor Doan. For the Green Machine it was Jeff Kane with a pair and one to maich as both teams were able to light up the score-board with two goals, the first by the Green Machine's Teddy Howarth, a new member of the team.
